Mens oppenents' rpi

The team's regular season record of 9-20 is poor. No way to slice that. But, we did play some pretty good teams this season. Some of them we played quite well, down to the wire, and nearly came away with W's. Checkout some RPI ranking below:

Memphis- #7 (2 losses)
A&M- #29
UAB- #43
Illinois St.- #45
Tulsa- #60 (2 losses)
Northwestern- #70
Utep- #79 (2 losses)
Houston- #98 (2 losses)

10 of our 20 losses were against top 79 rpi teams. 12 of our 20 losses were against top 100 rpi teams. We played a number of these teams very, very well this year (TAMU, UAB, Tulsa, Utep jump to mind). I think next season some of these losses turn into W's and we start knocking off some pretty well regarded teams in addition to some of our cupcake Ws from this season.

Win totals under Matt Doherty
2006-07 -- 13
2007-08 -- 10
2008-09 -- 9

Sorry, with a new regime, that yearly win total should be going in the other direction.

We lost those games. I'm surprised you hadn't heard that already.

Yes, those cupcakes did have a bitter taste to them, didn't they?

You can spin the numbers how ever u want to but the bottom line is 9-20.

To look it @ another angle take a look @ the RPI's of the OTHER teams we played. Based on the numbers below Texas A&M Corpus Christi was the best win of the season.

A&M CC- 137 WIN
UCF- 140 LOSS
Marshall- 144 LOSS
TCU- 157 LOSS
Southern Miss- 163 WIN
South Florida- 182 LOSS
Alabama St- 202 WIN
Tulane- 203 WIN
UTSA- 211 LOSS
East Carolina- 215 LOSS
Rice- 220 SPLIT
Colorado- 237 WIN
Ark Pine Bluff- 257 LOSS
SMU- 265
Cal State Bakersfield- 302 WIN
Houston Baptist- 313 WIN

I agree 100 percent with you on that.

9-20 is not a way to instill confidence in your fan base, after winning 11 games the year before. Losing to TCU, UH (2), Tulsa (2), UTEP (2) and Rice are not good signs either. You don't keep fans happy by losing to your natural rivals.

imo, we have only had two good wins in Doherty's three years...both in his first year: Dayton and at UAB. And the last significant win this program had was against TT in 03 and we also played WF very close that year.
