Bottom line is that SMU has to pay to play (pun intended) and it seems as if Steve-O understands this. There are some obvious differences but Calipari's situation at Memphis should be the blueprint for SMU's run at landing Billy Clyde:
(quoted from another thread) Calipari would be stupid to bolt for Memphis. Right now he coaches a school that enables him to maximize his win total yearly. At Memphis he wins 30+ games every year whereas at Kentucky he will be lucky to average 25 wins. If for some reason he has a down year and wins 22 games at Kentucky he gets axed. Memphis fills its stadium. He has no limit on recruiting any player in the country at Memphis, and while it has been a solid program in the past, he can really leave a tremendous legacy at Memphis given that they really haven't won any championships. He has already moved around a lot and so sticking around a long time at Memphis would definitely enhance his legacy. Only money could sway him, which is always a factor, but with his wallet he would have to be very greedy!
