Donnie Nelson at game...Donnie Nelson was at the game last night, but what was more interesting was later when he was interviewed live on the Ch. 11 Sunday Night sports show. When asked where he was, he said he was at a Lithuanian party up in North Dallas "celebrating" SMU's victory. Not a bad plug and we've always wondered why SMU did not get more Euros in hoops like we do Track and other sports. Donatis is a start, maybe the Mavs reputation and friendliness to the SMU program could encourage some more big Euros to look our way.
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...Isn't there a 7-footer from Lithuania who's also considering SMU?

Re: Donnie Nelson at game...Yes, his name is Paulius Joneliunas (6'10" HS in VA). I know he was getting looks from a few ACC schools as well.
Chuck Cooperstein was at the game last night also. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...Also at the game:
Former SMU center Ira Terrell (of course) Former forward John Karl Robertson Former linebacker Greg Gardner Former offensive lineman Tom Huemiller Former center Jon Forinash Former forward/center Mike Niemi Women's basketball coach Rhonda Rompola Men's soccer head coach Schellas Hyndman Defender (soccer) Ross Spencer DMN columnist Kevin Blackistone DMN national hoops writer Steve Richardson .... and I'm sure many more. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...You forgot Gerald W. Hedgcock.
He's a super star in the making and was a legend in his own time during his years on the Hilltop. Gardner will be thrilled that he made your short list. _____________________________________

Re: Donnie Nelson at game...I saw Eron Harris as well. He makes a lot of games.

Re: Donnie Nelson at game...The great Erion Harris?? I bet he wishes that TCU was that weak on the interior back when he played. I kept expecting Kurt Thomas or Lee Nailon to take a purple warmup off at some point. It was a sight for sore eyes to watch Jibran and company have their way with some Frogs.

Jay was a good very good center for the Mustangs. If I recall correctly, Jay developed a very good outside shot in his last two years. Of course he went up against the like of great player from Utah a couple of times (Wasn't his name Keith Van Horn? Still is playing in the NBA?) or something like that? Tremendous player that scored that last second shot to knock the ponies out of the finals of the WAC tournament before the WAC splitup.
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...also nba hall of famer darrell walker was there
he played for the washington bullets
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...And about 4 or 5 of the Women's Basketball team was there as well, including Cossey, the freshamn forward (Davis I think her name is), and a couple others.
Good job to them this weekend as well for beating the Deacons in overtime. ------------------ The Diamond M. [This message has been edited by Jonas Seuraut (edited 11-25-2002).] The Diamond M.
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...Darrell Walker is nowhere near the Hall of Fame. Nice player in his day, but certainly not a HOF-er. He's a scout now for the Washington Jordanaires. He came in and scouted a lot of games at SMU over the last two years, I assume to see Sasser 2 years ago and Hancock last year (plus opponents, of course). Is he here all the time because he played at Arkansas? Does he have family down here? Seems like he spends more time at SMU games than he does in D.C.
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...Speaking of Hancock. Does anyone know if he is playing somewhere?
Re: Donnie Nelson at game...radio guys said Hancock is playing in Finland.
