Also, I've seen Pats play 3 x's & Milson
a couple. Both can light it up from deep.
I take Pats right now. My point is I'm
looking @ the big picture bringing a local
coaches son into the picture & the positive
long term effect that could have on this
program. Milson & the others u mentioned
is exactly what I'm thinking & seeing re:
poor recruiting/evaluations. There are middle
tier kids right here that could help turn
this program around.

Erion, let's not make it like the staff is absentee. The staff is still recruiting Kyan Anderson as well as Groselle, both Heroes. Also, possibly Mergerson if he ends up a Heroe. They are pretty active w/your players, just not the program yet. That's not on you or Mase, it just hasn't been very long yet. As you said, the Heroes model is different, so they go to parents and school coaches, as opposed to program heads. Price you pay for being a clean program, lol

Obviously, I'm a Heroe homer, rock the gear etc, so I say this w/admiration. You are the high mids of AAU. The model is corporate, high school coaches on the bench, trainers as ops guys, multi-million dollar facility, no elite kids but great results based on system/chemistry. That's Butler/Gonzaga, and that's what I'm saying about SMU.

Did anyone know that A&M pledge, Keith Davis, formerly of Desoto, transferred to the same boarding school as Ricmonds Vilde, SMU's '10 big? Well he did, and Vilde hands it to him daily. The point is that we need DFW, but some need to understand that the 20th best player in Texas doesn't automatically translate to CUSA material.

What we need is young balanced staff that is player friendly. We need candidates to interview w/a plan in place, and Texas/DFW roots. Something that resonates, given our problems in DFW. It needs to make industry noise, not media noise

one clarification: Quinton Ross was not a sleeper in high school. He was the best player on a Texas 5A Finalist and a top Texas prospect-maybe not a national elite but signing Sasser, Davis, Elsey, Hancock, Ross, Hopkins and several more feed off each other-WHICH IS NOT MENTIONED ENOUGH when discussing the benefits of local recruits. Eact time you get one the next one gets easier. SMU got at least 8 or so Texas Top 15 or prospects in that era.

Tis true PonyDoh...tis true...they still chat up Kyan and Big Red. And I personally dont want them to come to us singularly...but I think we could help if we were part of the process. If we knew what they were pushing...we could give it a nudge. I think 75% of HS coaches are useless or obstructions to the process. Parents should be big. In absence of parents hit the HS coach regularly. Club coaches should be secondary influences...or the primary if the HS coach is a dud.

The benefit of club coaches is a good team will have multiple players of interest...so you can 1 stop shop it. Other than that...we're all useless. But man....if I could transport our starting 5 to SMU...by the time theyre sophs they could be contenders!

And Doh....the big problem with Texas recruits is TX is home to some of the best athletes and worst programs in the country. Very little commitment to development...outside of the $$ areas. Trainers go where theres $$...its just a lack of good athletic talent there. And the great athletes are left to the hounds.

What about the model, E? Is SMU better being a system program, and looking like the Zags/Butler, or should we pretend we're high major? Based on your experience, which assistants at Texas schools seem ready?
