Don't look now, but...

Postby PG » Sun Jan 25, 2004 10:22 pm

The "easy" part of the conference schedule is over. UTEP and Boise are tough places to play. Nevada got swept on that trip recently. Then Nevada and Fresno come here, followed by the always-tough SJSU/Hawaii trip. I don't see how things can get turned around during that stretch. We probably won't have won a road game by then (*maybe* San Jose) so winning at LA Tech doesn't lok likely. Home games against Boise and UTEP are winable but they could be so beaten down by then that they'll probably completely mail it in. Finish out the season at Tulsa in a game that could be for last-place bragging rights, then get destroyed by Rice again at home. Lose the play-in game in the WAC Tourney and call it a season. Fun.

They are already mailing it in. That is the problem.

Patrick Simpson, for one, definitely looked Saturday like he has NOT mailed it in. The guy was playing three days after some fairly major surgery, and he was fighting. Maybe he was upset over not starting, but he clearly has not given up. I hope the rest of the players follow his lead and keep battling.

You are right. He had mailed a couple in but seems to have enough pride to realize what a poor effort he showed and correct the problem. Castro is still fighting too. From the bench, Miller and Rack seem to want to play as well as Pearson and Bennett. Unfortunately, that isn't enough to win basketball games.
