Terrific win tonitegood job by Patrick Simpson bailing out Bhop, who had a good game except for critical turnovers late in regulation and again in OT.
It looks like "slow ball" is here to stay, as clearly we are not deep enough/well enough conditioned to run for 40 minutes. Hey...whatever it takes. I'd almost forgotten how much fun it is to win a game.
Re: Terrific win toniteOMG!! I cant believe we just won that!! Please say this isnt a dream!!!

Re: Terrific win toniteThat was a messy, wild circus ride. Not sure why Isham fouled that guy in regulation...that was completely idiotic. 1.8 left in regulation, and he fouls at midcourt so they have a 1 and 1.
We got Nevada to play down to our Princeton level. They looked awful tonight. I was wrong, I really thought we'd lose by 15 pts. THE WACKY WAC continues....How many academic risks and Juco's do they have?? Nice job Pat - clutch. [ 02-05-2004, 07:03 PM: Message edited by: Pony_Fan ]
Re: Terrific win toniteWow.. I was totally shocked when I saw the score just now on the ticker while watching this Duke/UNC game... great win... but is it enough?
Re: Terrific win toniteWell Pony_Fan, according to Stallion they have 4 academic risks and 1 juco. I guess our superior coaching won this game for us. Wait a minute, I'm confused.
Re: Terrific win toniteActually, you do have to give dement some credit for going to this slow down style, because we appear to be more competitive at this pace.
I wanted to credit our home court advantage for this one. You know...Moody Madness and all of that...but the radio guys said this one was played in front of the usual 2000 crowd. Long live the FIFTEEN HUNDRED and good job, Ponies!
Re: Terrific win toniteThe crowd was poor, but what did you expect? Its a good win, not a great one. Nevada is beatable, and the homecourt was huge, although the head ref obviously thought he stepped off a plane in Reno, Nevada today. There was a series of consecutive calls by one ref that road teams just don't get.

Re: Terrific win toniteWhile i enjoyed the win, I detest the slow down, half court style that Dement chooses to deploy. The game was entertaining only because of it's closeness and the way it ended. Dement's style with this team is both boring and puzzling since he has the depth and athletes to run up-tempo.
I agree with an earlier poster, that Nevada played down to our Princeton style, but almost pulled it out. I very much enjoyed the win, but still think a change must be made.
Re: Terrific win toniteI don't know. Isham's foul was foolish, but he was going for the ball, just like the other guy. He just got there late. Had he stepped in and made the steal, he's the hero, instead of Simpson. As a coach or teammate, I'd be more forgiving for Isham's foul than I would for Snyder's. If I was their coach, I would have chewed him out all the way back to Reno.
Re: Terrific win toniteThe chances they get a shot off with 1.8 is very slim, especially from mid court.
Re: Terrific win toniteI have to give Dement credit for his game plan. It was a very deliberate pace, and like it or not, the plan kept SMU in the game. The shot selections were much better than previous games. The offense used the clock and looked for a good shot.
This was one of the better games I have seen Hopkins play this year. For the most part, his shot selection was good, and he played within the offense. His defense was better, and he didn’t commit bad fouls. However, the team needs to look at their late game decision making. (I’ll still never forget Willie Davis against Tulsa in 2000.) I like the play of Miller, and I thought he had a nice game against Wake. Anyone know what was wrong with Castro in the first half? Knee?
Re: Terrific win toniteI saw him leave to the locker room holding his tongue - maybe hit bit it or something - don't know.
Re: Terrific win toniteIt looked like Castro played with some type of bandage just below his lower lip after getting it hit sometime in the first half. The play under the basket was very physical all night.
I was puzzled by the foul call on Isham at the end of regulation. It looked like he got to the ball first and batted it away. He didn't foul anyone getting to the ball, but collided with a Nevada player after hitting the ball. Looked to me like, since Isham arrived first, the foul should have been on Nevada, not on Isham.
Re: Terrific win toniteHEB, I'm with you, that was a pisspoor call and one that is NEVER made in that situation. I was amazed that the only thing the Dallas Morning News chose to write about the next day was what a break SMU got on Snyders foul on Simpson. No mention of the gifts Nevada got on the Isham play and including no calls on two moving screens to free Snyder on his 3 pointer and numerous hacks on our shooters like Hopkins while no one could touch Snyder without getting a foul. Its not sour grapes because we won, but two days later I still think we got jobbed by that one ref.
Re: Terrific win toniteWe are leaving the league and aren't going to get any calls from the refs. Last night against Fresno was an abomination with their no calls!
