Why is Dement still coaching?Another awful season for the men's basketball team, yet Dement is still coaching. Why should I go to a game (which I have not in two years) when the administration does not care about winning? It is time (as it was three seasons ago) for Dement to leave. Copeland's job also needs to be look into because he has one of the worst hiring records in Division 1-A for men's football and basketball. It is time to clean house in the athletic department or SMU will be faced with the prospects of playing in Division 1-AA or Division II (which may not be that bad for SMU).
Re: Why is Dement still coaching?Wait a minute JR, I thought it was all about our model that did not allow us to recruit. Which is it?
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Why is Dement still coaching? The truth is that it is both. However, this team has sufficient talent on it that we should not be in next to last place in the lowly WAC.
Re: Why is Dement still coaching? We should be in next to last place. We are as good as our record. It is not all Dement's fault. But he must go because no one gives a crap about the games anymore as evidenced by SMU'S poor and embarressing attendance figures. There is no excitment in the program. There has not been for a few seasons. We are stuck with Dement because our dumb [deleted] AD gave him a long term contract and we cannot afford or will not buy Dement out. By the way, we are getting beat by Juco's and players that would not be accepted into SMU under its current model. In other words, we are getting beat by teams with a Division 1-A model. If SMU does not want to play by Division 1-A rules, then we should drop down a division and be done with it. SMU athletics is an embarressment right now. I hope it changes. It is a good sign that Bennett was allowed to sign some JUCO players. It will be interesting to see if Dement's replacement is another 'diamond in the rough' or a coach with a proven Division 1-A track record. That should tell the story.
Re: Why is Dement still coaching? If you think SMU is going to get a proven D-1 head coach, you're crazy.
