I just watched Doh post game press conference. After watching him for the past 5 years, I think he has finally figured it out. He is loose, happy, and it is rubbing off on the team. No longer are kids so scared that if they screw up they will wind up buried on the bench. We have a cool confidence about us, and it is so encouraging.

Secondly, Doh FINALLY FINALLY began to defer to his assistants, Hobbie and Mangino. He realized hey I am a damn good salesmen (recruiter), but not the best X&O's guy, why not get someone in here who can do that. Voila!

I have not been this happy/pleased with SMU basketball in the 5 years I have been a Mustang. Here's to hoping we keep winning--more fans will definitely start coming out I can guarantee you that.

Dare I say, win C-USA?!

Yes, he was going to get a pass for this year no matter the results, but he knows he has about 365 days to produce otherwise he is more than likely gone, never to be a head man again. Love him or hate him and all of his baggage, but game by game we're watching him react to his professional career being saved. That's really cool to watch in and of itself.

Good post and agree that it is fun to watch the whole scene transpire and look forward to the rest of the year and next year will be a blast.

I can't imagine we'll shoot that poorly again this season. Our D has messed with Tulsa, Tulane, and ECU. Nice non-scoring droughts for all those teams.

Mangrum and Pats are going to have to contribute more down the stretch. Has Pats made a bucket yet? Walker has been a nice surprise when it counts.

man, Pats has such a slow, deliberate release it almost seems like he has to have a wide-open look in order to hit something. Hope he comes along.

I sit behind the bench and I noticed something different this year too with doh.
Even though he is still quick to yank them after a mistake, he is much calmer when they get to the bench and he explains why they got pulled.

That being said, he did lay into Jeremiah pretty good ;)

Losh is barely playing, which is actually good for chemistry. He's probably shot 5 or 6 times total. Couple nice boards and a block last night. He had a nice foul line extended touch that was half-way down and popped out. He'll come around

This is a fun team to follow. In my years of watching SMU athletics, I can break teams down into one of four categories:

1. teams you expect to win that do win (which has been quite rare at SMU for awhile)
2. teams you expect to lose that do lose (much more common)
3. teams you expect to win that lose (see SMU basketball circa 1998-2002)
4. teams you expect to lose that win (this year's hoops team)

Of those categories, hands down the most fun to watch is a team that falls into #4. There's just something fundamentally cool about the upside surprise. Enjoy the ride while it lasts and while the expectations are still low.
