MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON OUTLOOK: Veteran experience

Postby PonyPride » Fri Nov 12, 2010 3:53 pm

The SMU men's basketball team lost some athleticism with the graduation of guard Derek Williams and forward Mouhammad Faye, but head coach Matt Doherty says that the veteran team — SMU has six seniors on the roster this year — could make up for the lost athleticism with better execution on both ends of the floor. Led by senior forward Papa Dia, a preseason all-conference honoree, the 2010-11 season tips off Friday night against Arkansas-Little Rock.

according to Doherty, having veteran experience and six seniors does matter. Even if he was spinning to keep people somewhat interested in the season, the fact is Doherty has spent the past 4 years here preparing for this year and we all suffered through it. Yes, we can and should expect to have a competitive team on the floor this year.

Nice job digging that up, Hoop. At the time, we all thought it was a pantload. But as it turns out, he might have been telling the truth. He spoke to PP about the value of experience, and after they beat Tulane the other night, he talked about that same experience, how even when we didn't play particularly well, our experienced guys helped find a way to win.
What a refreshing change.

Well, pretty sure HoopFan dug this up as a more of dig towards PonyDoh than a compliment of Doherty, but I enjoyed reading it again.

I think this shows good insight by Doherty. When he said this, every Pony Fan to a man thought he was just BSing us, giving us coach speak, but, looks like he knew what he was talking about.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
