Regulation CBB is no longer 40 minutes...

Postby Mitch McConnell » Wed Mar 16, 2011 11:52 pm

...it's actually 39:59.5.

What was up with that ruling at the end of the regulation? I don't believe ORU's first shot ever hit the rim. I'm pretty sure the shot clock hit zeroes before they had their missed putback. That should have stopped the game clock with several seconds to play.

But for the sake of argument, let's say the first shot hit the rim. Fine. They miss the putback. Dia gets the rebound and Doherty is screaming for a timeout. Dia flings the ball down the court but before he does, the clock stops at 0.5.

The officials go to the monitor. I think we all thought they were looking for actual time when they gave the timeout. Or at least I thought they gave Doherty the TO. I think I did hear a buzzer but aren't the buzzer and clock connected?

Moments later, they bring Doherty and Scott Sutton together to explain what's going on. And then you hear the PA guy, "The officials have ruled this game is going to overtime.''

WHAT?

There was no explanation why.It didn't appear that Doherty and Sutton liked the ruling at all. It's unlikely SMU would have been able to do anything with the presumed 0.5 but give the players the chance to run the play.

It just really seemed like this was a total give-up decision.

Did anyone hear anything afterwards?

EDIT: I didn't see the other thread until now.
