NIT / CBIThere is no also. CIT is not a pay to play tournament. We paid no money when we played at northern iowa; further, our travel expenses would have been paid had we done the flight to Chicago and 6 hour bus ride. Instead, since we chartered a flight, our travel expenses were only partially reimbursed (and I agree with that decision).
CIT is a pay to play AT HOME tournament. We only paid for the right to host the game. The top seeded team has the right of first refusal to pay for home advantage. SMU has acknowledged that, while we were not turning a profit with the attendance and concessions, this was meant to draw attention to the program regionally. Rich Philips said it cost the teams $30k (and change) EACH game, but I had originally heard that it was a one-time fee, so I'm not exactly sure if we paid $30k or $90k overall. I'm fine either way. The NIT locations are determined based on seeding until it reaches the final four at MSG. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

Re: NIT / CBI
There was a trade out on the N Iowa trip as the charter also took out the overnight accommodations to be paid by the CIT. CIT invites the teams for the Tourney ( they have a big and impressive list of members that vote on who to invite, go to their website and see the members) and the teams have the option to pay for the $31,500 fees for each Home game and the school gets to take the total Home proceeds of ticket sales and concessions at each home game. Don't know abut the NIT but for instance the CBI Tourney has much larger fees to be the Home team....its $35,000 for the first round game and jumps to $50,000 for the second round game and $75,000 for each game of the semi's and finals of the Tourney..you better have an established home crowd and good concessions to offer for sale. Popcorn, pretzels, plain hot dogs and cokes served at SMU will never assist in the totals to offset those kind of entry fees to be a home team. I know there are posters who laugh at us who mention the weak offerings at the concession stands at SMU, but its a fact that you need diversity and a better product to make it a profitable enterprise.

NIT / CBI
Thanks for clarifying. I assume the NIT has home hosting fees associated with it, but I don't know what they are. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

http://www.cougcenter.com/2011/3/22/206 ... t-finances Also don't forget that ESPN continues to provide television coverage of the NIT tournament. The NIT has a 10-year, $24.1 million contract with ESPN; this compares with the 11-year, $6.2 billion TV contract with CBS for the NCAA tournament, but there isn'y ANY $ for the CIT yet. I don't imagine there is any or if any much TV $ for the CBI either.
Re: NIT / CBII like the CIT better than the CBI. All the participating teams have winning records and the guarantee for a home game is much lower. Overall the competition is about equal. Given the choice between the CBI and CIT I would rather go back to the CIT. That is of course if we don't make the NCAA tournament or NIT which goes without saying.
NIT / CBI
well, in my quick read of host team obligations in the NIT rule book included as a link on that page, i saw nothing for fees due. it sounds more like you take on all of the costs of hosting but probably make it up in tv revenue. there was a whole section on how the split the revenue between the teams with number of games played as the main driver. Re: NIT / CBI
Look at the situation with Creighton U who had the option of the CIT or CBI this year and opted for the CBI and play for the championship against Oregon with a best out of three Championship starting Monday night. But the next two games will be played at Oregon ( If a third game is required) so Oregon has the distinct advantage in the third game at home but they were the higher seed and could also afford much more readily the additional $75,000 for the extra game. Re: NIT / CBI
You have to take CBI, if you can afford it, b/c of the HDnet coverage, as well as the chance to play high majors. CIT is a much better run tourney, but you can't beat playing high majors on TV
Re: NIT / CBIMy main aversion to the CBI is playing a team like Oregon State a few years ago that ended the season with a losing record or Oregon this year, which also ended the regular season with a losing record. To me that totally devalues the tournament even if that team has a strong power rating.
Re: NIT / CBI
I totally agree, it's pretty weak sauce. Like the CIT for us, this CBI for Creighton has really been good on the team. They've been experimenting w/line-ups much of the year, and were very average much of the year, but came together late. Most of the guys stepping up, are coming back but weren't as featured early. Now they get a pretty big stage, 2 out of 3. I know their local recruits are enjoying watching the team on TV, getting more familiar w/what they do. They get to show off Qwest etc. Meanwhile, if the new staff bites the Ducks & Altman, they put a major scalp in the duffel bag of Bluejay fandom
Re: NIT / CBIA cbi final between, say us and baylor 2 of 3 would be great
I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.
