Do not forget that these kids all played AAU ball against one another, know one another and the intimidation factor is pretty much removed.
I spoke w/a coach recently who thought AAU might be the death of local rivalries. Basically, fewer & fewer local 'rivals' are scheduling each other, b/c they can't take a potential loss in a backyard brawl, that doesn't really escalate the program, or at least get a guaranteed W. I started to look at the major cities, and it's true, tons of local feuds have been shelved.
