Re: Fab FiveGeorgetown in the 80s moved more Starter jackets, than anything the Fab 5 ever did. Hell, the Hoya's used African daishiki print as their trim for awhile, especially during the Iverson years. Thompson sat games because Prop 48 was racially bias.
Re: Fab FiveArguments gotten convoluted. Was the Fab5 self promotional...sure. But so is the CIT. Was the Fab5 the best team of the era...no. Never said they were. (although back to back championship games is no small feat). Did the Fab5 invent bald heads, black socks and baggy shorts...no...but they helped make it cool.
You can deny their impact...but almost 20 years later its still relevant and captivating story. Never compared them to UNLV. Im sure if Duke did one itll be better. Does that diminish what they accomplished? Does KG go straight to the league if not for Webber? who knows...but youre a fool if you think it didnt play a part. And once that door was open...we all know what its done to the game...good and bad. Its not even worth talking to you if you dont acknowledge their marketing power...just check Michigans receipts before, during and after. The Fab5 was about the whole...not the parts...thats why individually mktg success escaped them. (Webber did ok) Other than LJ...who from UNLV made mktg $$? Duke?? No one talked about fab5 after webber left...cuz it wasnt the same...the documentary didnt even touch it. Finally...Yes street agents have been around for years...but before then they were mostly corner dealers. Now...theyre such a threat the powers that be are rewriting regulations to account for them. Its a different beast now. And whether you like it or not...who helped takeit mainstream?
Re: Fab FiveJust saw the HBO UNLV - crazy stuff with Tark and NCAA. nice run in 70's and 80's.
Very hard ticket in town at Thomas and Mack. 103-73 vs Duke - blowout win. Awesome team. His record is pretty amazing even with all the controversy. Better story than Fab 5
