I am putting this on the football board and the basketball board in hopes that more people will see it. Please forward it to others if you will.
First, over the last few years I have heard from a lot of people about their disappointment in not being able to see the Hall of Fame Dinners because we can only run them on SMU TV. So, I am going to make a special offer. I will make a DVD of all four dinners available for $30.00. If you will pick it up at the Mustang Club office there will be no postage. If we mail them there will be postage added to the $30.00. Plus, for the first 16 people I will include a hard back copy of the book that was printed about the 1982 season that has a recap of every game plus many, many pictures -- all in color. I only have 16 copies of the book. You can order by contacting me at [email protected].
Sometime in the next few weeks we will have a new website that will contain almost 3,000. pictures. We will be running a special for pictures in July.
We will also be selling assorted DVD's for $5.00 each (if picked up at the Mustang Club office otherwise postage will be added). The DVD's will ve predominantly football and basketball.
Also, DeGolyer Library has a large number of Mustang Magazines available for purchase at a very small price. I think some go back 30-40 years. Let me know if you are looking for a certain date.
Lastly, we have just finished two new display cases in Heritage Hall and will finish a third one this week. One features the great Gene Phillips and the other one features the story of the first father and son to play basketball at SMU. That would be Burt Rollings and Bobby Rollings. There is also a feature on Sid Halliday who was one of the captains of the 1947 football team. We have the jersey that Sid wore in the 1947 TCU game. SMU fell behind TCU 19-13 with just a little over one minute to play but made the mistake of kicking off to Doak. With 8 seconds left in the game Doak had moved the Mustangs down the field to around the 10 yard line. Gil Johnson hit Sid Halliday with a pass to tie the game at 19-19. Sid caught the ball on his knees. Doak missed the extra point so the game ended 19-19. SMU finished fourth in the nation and would later meet Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. Sid wore the same jersey in the Cotton Bowl game. This was probably Doak's greatest game at SMU. However, he later said it offered up his only disappointment while playing at SMU. He said that he should have called a timeout before trying the extrapoint. He was exhausted at that point and missed the extra point. We have the game in color and we have inserted the radio broadcast done by the legendary Kern Tips. The game is availble for sale on the Heritage Hall website.
I will keep you informed when we will haveother things for sale.
