college basketball took a hit todaythe Big East tournament at the Garden was the original conference showcase tournament i believe. Great atmosphere with the Cuse, Uconn, Pitt fans over the years. Uconn in a conference with Duke? horrible for college hoops, can't believe K and Roy Boy are in favor of it. Sad stuff when fear drives college sports. I doubt Uconn ever wanted to be in the ACC.
college basketball took a hit todayI have enjoyed watching this tournament over the past few years. I will be sad to see it go if it actually does.
Re: college basketball took a hit today
Far from the original (ACC tournament started in 1954, and I won't even look up others), but it is the tournament that had the longest run at one venue. Rumor is that the ACC is thinking about moving its tournament to the Garden.
Re: college basketball took a hit todayI hate everything expansion, but to say the Big East tourney was 'the original conference showcase' flies in the face of the league that just decimated the Big East. The ACC has long been the granddaddy of all hoops conferences. The Acc just grabbed the Garden, so it's not like a great tourney at the Garden, is going anywhere. Just won't be every year.
An added bonus is that TCU is going to have to scramble for being trigger happy and making a crap choice, and better yet, Georgetown basketball may fall into the Potomac. very excited to see Gtown relegated to the A10 or something like that. On the whole, expansion is such a reactionary cash grab, its embarrassing for major institutions. Amazing how schools & the NCAA preach at student athletes, then act the exact opposite.
Re: college basketball took a hit todaythe ACC is now truly becoming the Atlantic Coast conference. Kudos to them for being aggressive rather than sitting back and waiting for the SEC to pick them apart.
Re: college basketball took a hit todaySorry, but the Garden is a highly overrated basketball venue. Just cause it is in NYC and is old does not make it good. And low scoring affairs with refs swallowing their whistles, which the Big East basketball is also known for, are not my cup of tea.
Re: college basketball took a hit todayI loved going to the Garden for the Big East tournament. Sadly, the Garden is no longer the most modern venue to watch a game, but it is still outstanding with great sight lines and the excitement of NY surrounding the building. Cameron Indoor may be the worst college gym in the country being old with no air conditioning, but it ranks as probably the best for atmosphere, tradition and fans sitting practically on the floor with the players. The Garden also has many of these qualities and history at least in my opinion. I would watch a game in the Garden on any day and then exit into the sea of taxi cabs, neon lights and excitment of the city. A truly great experience for anyone who has ever attended a tournament game in person.
Re: college basketball took a hit today
They did a remodel of Cameron a few years back. It has A/C now
