Your Team

I was just wondering what you think of your basketball team this year?

As a Nevada Fan I think you guys are going to be in the top half of the WAC.

I like our team, but we are a really young team, with 3 new starters and a freshman running the point.

But we will be rolling at the end of the season and we have the WAC Tournament in Reno.

Just wanted to get an overview of your Mustangs.

We'll play a different style of basketball this year than in the past, which should be more conducive to our players’ strengths. We should start three seniors, a junior and a sophomore. Our top freshman has an injury but hopefully he will be ready in a few weeks. Depth could be our biggest problem.

I believe UTEP is clearly the favorite to win the conference. But it depends on how they respond to their new coach. Losing Gillispie hurt. He’s a helluva coach. I think Rice, SMU, Nevada, Fresno and LA Tech all have the potential to make a run at UTEP. Rice has a pretty good team and La Tech probably has the best player in the conference in Paul Millsap.

Should be a great season. Good luck to your Pack. Their run last year was fun to watch.

You best bet is to read the thread entitled "Exhibition," and pay particular attention to the post from The XtC. He often watches practice and generally has very informed opinions on SMU basketball.

SMU should be very competitive in most games

Pack fan - the biggest difference you will see is in our defense and also
in our half court offense. We had neither in previous years - and you will see a big difference in us this year.

In the only game we have played so far against an African All Star team,
we had 16 or 17 steals. This compares with 7.5 steals per game that we averaged last year. That one stat is an indicator of what I am saying.
I know we were not playing Kansas or Duke - but that is still an impressive stat which shows hustle and desire.
