boxing outI have never seen a team not even attempt to box out. Rice bigs (the middle eastern duo) had inside position on the offensive glass the whole night. We didn't put a body on them and move them out. Our team is charmin soft. Not boxing out is unacceptable and falls 100% on doh.

Re: boxing out
I think he is talking about on Defense. We do need to do better job of blocking out on defense, although Rice is a bit tough with their big physical middle easterns in there. Now on offense, many coaches with a smaller lineup, have a philosphy of pulling back and not going for offensive boards, a pretty good strategy for SMU I think. I have no problem with 4 peeling back when a shot goes up during the first 2/3rds of the game or longer, depending on the situation. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: boxing out
That's a part of the system. Tempo-control teams are told not to go to the O glass, as to not allow fast break opportunities going the other direction, which picks up the games pace. Shot goes up, get back on D, defend. The greater point is that we defensive rebound horribly out of the zone
Re: boxing outYes - it does - but doh wouldn't know anything about that because he doesn't know what he is doing.
Re: boxing out
It's preferable, but it's really about getting the zone set before offenses can get up court. Having the opponent shoot a low fg %, while extending possessions, is as big a deal as the offense itself. The whole system is a philosophy of how to play, more than just a pick & cut based motion offense
