Yes, except that Scott Drew had some of the harshest NCAA restrictions since the SMU death penalty to deal with. BCG doesn't have any restrictions, he's just lost his touch.

The cupboard's almost as bare at Tech right now as it was at Baylor.

Baylor had incredibly tough restrictions but Drew didn't really overcome them - he basically outlasted them and subsequently brought in good players. I love what Drew's done at Baylor, I'm just disappointed we didn't hire Gillespie.

What I really don't understand is how someone "loses their touch". Maybe the bottle was what made him tick, a la John Daly, I don't know but someone losing their touch doesn't really make sense to me. We'll see but I think it's a little early to start dancing on his grave.

I think losing his touch refers to the incredibly awful reaches he made at a blueblood like Kentucky. No joke, the man offered Kentucky rides to mid & low majors, as frosh & sophs in high school. What's worse is that he offered an 8th grader that may not get the equivalent of a Sun Belt offer, as he's just a senior this year.

He's also not recruiting particularly well to Lubbock as we speak. Only buzz around him and the program, mirrors what we saw of Doh in his first few years. Firing long standing secretaries, fights w/admin, going over the NCAA practice time, abusive nature to players and employees surrounding the program.

All coaches are nuts to a certain degree, but BCG is certifiable, booze or no booze. I'm not burying him yet, he has a track record, and his teams play hard, but the Kentucky thing was far worse than Doh's stint at Carolina. Doh stocked the cupboard while being a [deleted]. BCG lost his eye while at Kentucky. Maybe he gets it back, maybe not, too early to tell. Its hard to look past some of the kids he offered, though

Those things sound more like someone losing their mind than their "touch"'or talent/ability but that's just semantics. While his Kentucky experience was strange, he's shown an ability to run a program -we'll obviously see if he can do it again. I know a friend who's a former AAU coach who said Gillespie used to be everywhere, was very personable and networked tirelessly.
