Thanks.. Kicking a guy while he is down is weak. Doh has been nothing but nice to me and my family over the years. I thought he was the right, high profile hire a few years back...just didn't work out. I wish him well, let's move on. The "U Haul", etc. posts are uncalled for..PONY UP!

I'm reasonably sure he has some redeeming qualities. Have you been a fan for 35+ years? Have some pride in the program and realize it's time for him to move on. Look at it objectively and it's an easy decision. Realy lookng forward to the future under a coach that can motivate his troops and earn their respect. Simple fact.

Granted it's a tough profession. However, it's one he's chosen to pursue. The territory comes with a high risk and high reward (i.e. being paid $450K for not working next year.) I sincerely believe his skills are fanatastic in the PR, fundraising and in a political environment. He'd be great in a corporate captial fund raising campaign. Great face guy who is able to connect with high dollar donors.

CoxBiz..I have been a fan, season ticket holder, road tripper, contributor, advocate, etc. of SMU hoops all the way back to the late 60's, I have buckets of pride and certainly realize it is time, past time, to move on, hire a new leader. However, throwing out the "U Haul" BS, when it is more then painfully obvious Doh's days as our HC are now inside the 14 days mark, strikes me of junior high-ish. Long Live Gary Sibley.

I don't see it happening. It would be too awkward with him and his successor down the hall. It is a good idea, though. The question is whether he wants to take another shot at coaching.

Should be interesting to see where he lands if he decides to stay in the coaching profession. Some universit or non-profit would love to have his ability to shake hands, make connections and raise money. Those qualities probably were a big part of his success in the business world. He certainly is a sound negotiator as is evidenced by the deal he has with SMU.

Hoopmanx, always enjoyed reading your posts. Didn't necessarily agree with all of them... but enjoyed them nonetheless. I haven't missed a home basketball game in several years and am a loyal fan like you. Can't wait for a fresh start for the team. I know from their comments they will welcome it and embrace a new direction.

The best timing would be to release Doherty right after the CUSA tourney. This will give other coaches the opportunity to approach Orsini if they are interested in the position. However, the decision may not be announced until after the NCAA tournament, especially if one of the coaches has a team in the big dance.
