CASTRO NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VI
DALLAS (SMU) --- SMU's Eric Castro was named to the COSIDA Academic All-District VI team for men's college basketball's university division. This is Castro's third consecutive season on the Academic All-District VI team. Along with his stellar play, he earned the honor with a 3.8 grade-point-average while majoring in accounting and sociology.
The senior from Oklahoma City is having the best season of his career, with personal-highs in points (14.4), rebounds (7.6), blocks (0.6), and assists (2.0). He is in the Western Athletic Conferences' top-10 of six different categories during league play: 10th in scoring at 14.4, fifth in rebounding at 7.7, fifth in field goal percentage at .517, 10th in steals at 1.50, and second in offensive rebounds at 3.64. Castro is also 35th in the NCAA in field goal percentage through Feb. 15 at .568.
Castro became the 34th SMU player to 1,000 career points during the Mustangs 71-65 win over Hawaii at Moody Coliseum on Feb. 12. He has also tied or set single-game career-highs in seven different categories, including a personal-best of 28 points in the Mustangs 95-83 overtime win at Tulsa on Jan. 1.
Castro has helped the Mustangs to a 12-10 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the WAC. The Mustangs have won three straight and will play at Toledo on Saturday Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
