PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ashley Lindsey, Sr., Connally
The most dominant defensive player in Central Texas, the 6-foot-4-inch post guided Connally to the Class 4A state tournament for the second straight season. She averaged 13.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4.1 blocked shots and 2.7 steals a game. No wonder Jody Conradt wanted her in a University of Texas uniform next season, which the District 26-4A MVP will be wearing.
Nicknamed "Big Bird" because of her long, long legs, Lindsey was certainly top dog when it came to area talent this year.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
Cierra Martin, Soph., Pflugerville
The high-flying sophomore played a big part of the Lady Panthers' march to the Class 5A state tournament. She heated up in the playoffs — when it mattered the most — and for the season, she averaged 10.6 points and 8.5 rebounds a game. She shared co-newcomer of the year honors in District 15-5A with McNeil's Schera Sampson.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Nancy Walling, Pflugerville
There were other worthy choices out there — Connally's Angie Hermesmeyer led her Cougars to state for the second straight year and Wimberley's Cheree Monden led her Lady Texans to state for just the third time in school history — but the nod goes to Walling. Her Pflugerville team lost twice to District 15-5A rival and champion Georgetown during the regular season, but knocked the Lady Eagles out of the playoffs to earn a spot in the regional tournament.
FIRST TEAM
Jo Hall, Cedar Park (Sr., Guard)
Averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.4 steals, 2.2 blocks and 3.8 assists a game for the district-runner-up Lady Timberwolves. She was a first-team All-District selection.
Tasha Fennell, San Marcos (Sr., Guard)
An outstanding all-around player, averaging 18.4 points, 14.8 rebounds and 5.6 steals for San Marcos. She recorded five triple-doubles this year and was a first-team All-District pick.
Leah Starr, Georgetown (Sr., Post)
Also a first-team All-District and All-Williamson County selection, Starr's presence on the defensive end guided Georgetown to the district championship. She averaged 13.9 points, 3.7 assists and 8 rebounds a game.
Megan Harrison, Dripping Springs (Sr., Forward)
The co-MVP of District 27-4A with Marble Falls' Farren Fox, Harrison proved to be one of Central Texas' toughest players. A great defensive player, the 6-foot-1-inch Harrison averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds a game. She had four teeth knocked out in the Lady Tigers' first meeting with Marble Falls, and rebounded to lead Dripping Springs to the regional finals.
Erin Dixon, Pflugerville (Sr., Forward)
The two-time MVP of District 15-5A, the All-Stater averaged 12.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2 steals a game for the state-tournament Lady Panthers.
