IRVING (SMU) - Keena Mays was named to the All-Conference USA First Team by the conference's coaches and members of the media after leading the Mustangs to their third regular season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the C-USA Championship with a 12-4 record in league play, 21-8 overall, league officials announced Sunday. Senior Alisha Filmore and junior Akil Simpson were selected to the second team.

Mays finished the regular season second in Conference USA with 19.3 points per game and eclipsed 20 points nine times in 21 games. The guard also ranked sixth in the league with 3.9 assists per game. She was named C-USA Player of the Week four times, and shot a league-leading 41.0 percent from 3-point range, making 59 of 144 attempts. The junior transfer posted two double-double, scoring 23 points with 11 rebounds in her first game at SMU, and finished with 29 points, including two buzzer-beaters, and 13 rebounds in a triple-overtime win against UAB.

Filmore became the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, scoring 354 this season to take her career total to 1,036. She finished 18th in the league, averaging 12.2 points per game, and shot 33.6 percent from behind the arc, seventh in C-USA. She scored a season-high 22 points against Harvard, and scored 21 in road victories against C-USA foes UTEP and Memphis.

Simpson shot 46.7 percent from the field, seventh in Conference USA, to average 10.5 points per game and earn her second straight second team All-C-USA award. She was also selected to the All-Freshman team in 2011. The junior led the team and ranked eighth in the league with 8.3 rebounds, and posted six double-doubles, including four against C-USA opponents. She scored a season-high 20 points at San Diego State, and finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead SMU to a 73-71 win against UTEP to secure the regular season title.

The conference's specialty awards, including Coach and Player of the Year, will be announced on Monday. The Mustangs begin their quest for the Conference USA Championship title Thursday against the winner between eighth-seeded UCF and ninth-seeded Houston in the Tulsa Convention Center at 11 a.m.

SMU junior KEENA MAYS swept the Player and Newcomer of the Year Awards, marking the second time this has happened in the league (Jareica Hughes, UTEP/2008). Mays, a transfer from Kansas, quickly established herself as a top contender for both accolades as she scored a career-high 33 points against Stephen F. Austin (Dec. 19) during her second game in a Mustang uniform. The All-C-USA first teamer closed out the regular season averaging 18.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She also scored in double digits in all but three games she played and had at least 20 points nine times. Mays ranks among the league's best in five categories, including No. 1 in 3-point field goal percentage (.410/59-114) and threes made per game (2.. Her offensive production also ranked third-best in the conference as she was named C-USA Player of the Week four times (D23, J21, F4, F11).
