SMU Partners With TS Sports For Moody Coliseum Video Displays

June 6, 2013

DALLAS (SMU) - As renovations to Moody Coliseum continue, SMU has announced a partnership with TS Sports for a state-of-the-art video display system for the updated facility.

Moody will feature 27 Lighthouse video displays, including four center-hung displays, table displays for the scorers' table and TV crew, 10 concourse displays, two floor displays, a large display over the west entrance, four upper-bowl displays and four stanchion displays.

"The new TS Sports center-hung display will allow our fans to view any event from any level inside our coliseum in high definition. We're very excited to have TS Sports products in Moody Coliseum," spoke Tom Buning, Senior Associate Athletic Director at SMU.

Moody Coliseum is the location for SMU's men and women's basketball, women's volleyball, the pageantry of SMU Commencement and many other educational and entertainment events. The building is not only a campus landmark, but is recognized in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, as several famous figures have spoken here, including four U.S. Presidents and other international leaders. Construction began on the building in August 2012 with a scheduled reopen date set for December 2013.

TS Sports is a high-end electronic video board systems integrator that specializes in light-emitting diode (LED) technology. For more information about TS Sports, please visit ts-sports.com.

I looked into what this might mean for Moody in terms of actual products and here is what I came up with:

- Four center-hung displays - Run of the mill scoreboard. Doesn't mention the 360-degree display which is shown in some renderings and not in others. The 360-degree display is a very standard item now, but we might not get it. Since it isn't mentioned in the press release, and the newest renderings don't show it, I'm betting it's out. An early rendering below does show what I'm talking about:

- Table displays for the scorers' table and TV crew - Again, pretty standard, every arena has these:

- 10 concourse displays - These are probably HD monitors for the concession areas:

- Two floor displays - Not sure what these are. Could be something similar to the scorers table display, but on the baseline, or it could be replacing the old lite-brite boards in the corners of the lower bowls. The rendering below shows something with a pony logo in the far corners:

- A large display over the west entrance - This is what intriques me the most. In the earliest renderings I saw (which I can no longer locate), they had what looked like a giant LED board on the angled wall at the main entrance to Moody. Later renditions dumbed it down and it's gone through three or so variations to what today is a glowing pony. Below I've shown what the current rendering calls for as well as two examples from AT&T's headquarters in downtown as an example of what I think they might be doing, which would be pretty damn cool:

- Four upper-bowl displays - I'm guessing these go over the West entrance, arena side, and the Hall of Fame Club arena side:

- Four stanchion displays - These are a relatively new item that started popping up in the last year or so. Glad we're on the bandwaggon:

Since this company has worked with the Houston Rockets, maybe the 4 panel center board is similar to their new one? Obviously not Jerry-sized, but a smaller version would be very cool.

I rather took the "four center-hung displays" to mean the kind of thing in the first picture. I don't see any other way of hanging four screens in the center of the court.

The image that he associated with that paragraph is not the same as the one I posted and questioned about.

Two floor display paragraph photo without any videoboard:

The very first photo he posted with the videoboard in the corner:

But it is the same screen in the same place right?
