Stevens to Celts

Thoughts?

I've never understood the jump like this. He could have been the long time coach that always gets his teams in or close to tourney. Montgomery from Stanford landed back in college and seems to be doing ok at Cal. Now Stevens he has to deal with NBA prima donas - much different than the good kids he recruited in college. It will be interesting to watch.

Going from making 1.2 mil per year heading into a very tough Big East to making 3.6 mil year will influence a lot of decisions. If he does not do well he can land a good college job like Pitino and Calipari did.

he made about $1.2 million at butler. he's replacing the Boston Head coach who made $3.6 million
so I suspect he at least doubled his salary. has a multi year contract, if he fails he gets millions and dozens of college would take him on.

I bet the Big East members are not happy.

Stevens' Celtic contract is reportedly 6 years 22 million so they tripled his salary. I would go as well for that type of money.

He will have no problem finding a job after his stint with the Celtics no matter how well he does.

at the time of the report, I didn't see any numbers on salary. It will be interesting to see, but yes he can go back to the college ranks when this doesn't work out. Apparently he doesn't ever use profanity and seems very straight laced. I would just imagine he'll have a tough time adjusting, who knows.

Because he does not use profanity and has a straight head might be what makes him a good pro coach. Larry Brown and Phil Jackson did not use profanity and have a straight head to my understanding. College coaches like Bobby Knight use profanity and such in college but that stuff does not fly in the NBA when you are dealing with grown men. I think he will be fine either way.
