Re: Mudiay!!!!ESPN Insdier
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecr ... st?id=5597 Five-star point guard Emmanuel Mudiay (Dallas/Prime Prep) committed to SMU on Saturday, turning down offers from Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma State. Mudiay, the No. 5 overall player and No. 2 point guard in the ESPN 100, said no to many of college basketball's blue bloods in order to stay home. Mudiay is SMU coach Larry Brown's most highly ranked recruit since Brown took over in Dallas. Why he committed: "I prayed about it a lot, and this is what I felt was the best fit. My family is here, and they can see me play, and I will learn from a Hall of Fame coach in Larry Brown. He has done it in college and the pros. He knows what it takes to get there, and I think we can do some special things at SMU." What he brings: Mudiay is a playmaker who competes at both ends of the floor. He is in full attack mode with the ball in his hands. At 6-foot-5, 198 pounds, he is difficult for smaller point guards to match up with. Mudiay is an above-the-rim finisher on the break, can create his own shot off the bounce, hit the rhythm mid-range pull up and can drop off or kick out to open teammates when he draws multiple defenders. Mudiay is also a go-to player at end of clock and game situations, in addition to having the capability to defend all three perimeter positions if needed. How he fits: Coach Brown will utilize all Mudiay's gifts by allowing him to make plays on the break, in one-on-one isolations and screening actions on and off the ball. Coach Brown will put the ball in Mudiay's hands his first day on campus and will allow him offensive freedom within the team concept and with a rock solid foundation. Mudiay will provide some leadership while continuing to develop his skills and being coached on playing the game the right way on a daily basis. Reminds us of: NBA point guard Tyreke Evans comes immediately to mind. An attacking, playmaking point guard with great size and athletic ability who can score and facilitate, in addition to being able to simply take over the game. How the class is shaping up: Mudiay is the first pledge for the Mustangs. With Mudiay on board, expect more four- and five-star performers to check out SMU.
