We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..yeah, i would have liked to have beaten the Purple Puke by 50, but i wasn't discouraged by anything i saw. Only concern is Jalen, and LB getting these guys enough time. On the court, what i loved seeing was alot of unselfishness and good passing by our guys, despite the tight playing time. Our interior guys need to get stronger with the ball but i think they can and will. We have so many guys its gonna take some time to settle into a rythm. TCU dragged us into an ugly style game. We would beat them 10 times out of 10 times, and by 20 or more points most nights.
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..what surprised me is that our bigs (Moreira, Kennedy, Cunningham and Moore) played only a combined 56 minutes last night. These non-conference games are going to be interesting to watch as the coaches experiment with different combinations. I like our depth but agree we need to find some zone busters
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..I agree. I was never really worried. Whenever things got shakey Moore steadied the ship and the defense tightened up.
Both Moreira and Kennedy missed some gimmes and turned it over inside. But they kept getting in the right spots and had some good passing. There wasn't a player in the court that couldn't contribute. They all look like they belong. Moore really is the key. We need him healthy all year and hope he doesn't wear down. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..I'm not saying TCU is a world beater but I don't think they are as bad as some think. They have good shooters and they have their highest ranked bball recruit in years manning the middle in Shepherd. So everyone who thought we should've beat them by 30 is getting a little ahead of things. This was the first time most of these guys have played a true game together. It will take time.
While I believe the play of Nic Moore is one of our biggest keys to success, I also believe KF is just as important. On the surface he appears to be our only true scorer. I hope that Ben Moore, Brown, Kennedy and Moreira will step up and show the ability to score. My guess for the starting lineup tonight is Nic, KF, Manuel, Kennedy and Moreira. Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..In NY, they showed a replay of the game on Saturday morning. I recorded it and watched enough to get a sense for the team. My thoughts:
- We are much more talented than in years past (duh), and much more than TCwho. If the toads don't change to zone, we blow them out. Changing to zone was the only way they could counter the better players we have. Plus, it also caught the team by surprise. Had they not changed, I think this would have been a blow out, and we would have given some of the other frosh a chance to play more. - Good guard play overall - Ryan Manuel - thought played very smart - Nic Moore was crucial. In spite of the talent disparity, we may lose this game without him, and that's worrisome - Saw some rust in our big guys. You can tell they are talented and position themselves well enough, but need to make those baskets, and play even bigger. I felt Moreira was a bit nervous this being his first game for us, moreso than others. I have a feeling he will be dominant for us later on in the season. - Very pleased with Cunningham's efforts - I hope we practice playing against the zone, because that is how less skilled teams will likely play us moving forward They showed ur schedule moving forward, and it's is pretty tough, night and day against what the toads have to face. Critical to win tonight. Hopefully the first game jitters are out of the way, and we beat a RI team. Go Ponies!
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..
I agree 100% with this. I got a chance to watch the game, the lack of scoring power is very apparent. KF is easily just as important simply because nobody else on the team is a true scorer. It's fine to have a balanced attack, but no one outside of Moore is capable of putting up 15 points on any given night because they want to. That will be a major problem down the road at some point and not something you can fix.
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..I'm hoping one of the newcomers can score and we just didn't see it Friday night. It's obvious Nic has a great all-around game which includes the ability to score but I don't think it is ever a good thing when your PG comes down the court feeling like he's the top scoring option, or even the second optio (Unless you're talking about a megastar PG - Mudiay). Again, it is very early but I hope we see the signs of a scorer over the next couple of games from someone other than Nic and KF.
btw, I think Manuel has the ability to score, I'd just like to see him get more aggressive. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..
LOL, you're saying exactly what I'm thinking. It typically isn't a good thing when your top facilitator is the defacto scoring option. Frazier will need to provide quick scoring in his minutes. This team is going to struggle early, it's not as good as I thought they would be. Really, there was no reason TCU should have been able to hang around. They were dominated size-wise and I'm confident in saying talent-wise as well. I think scoring will be a reoccurring problem in the early going and until they find 2nd and 3rd options behind Moore, it's going to cost them a game or two that it shouldn't. Nonetheless, always good to get started with a win.
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..We have some scorers, just not lights out shooters from deep. Moore & Frazier can both bomb and score in the intermediate. Nick Russell was a 14ppg kid last year and has the best mid range on the team, just not beyond the arc. Kennedy and Moreira will get theirs as the season progresses as well. Manuel is dependable but an abysmal shooter. We'll see, but most teams don't have more than one or two guys who can truly get their own, so we're no different in that regard
Re: We are loaded. Moreso than i even thought..What's the deal with Manuel and his shot? He would be absolutely unstoppable if he had worked on his 3 and mid range shot this summer. TCU didn't even challenge him out there once they went to the zone.
