Would love to see SMU produce something like this

Postby RebStang » Thu Jan 30, 2014 1:48 am

I'm a dual-fan - Ole Miss and SMU. One thing that Ole Miss does really well that I'd love to see SMU duplicate is a weekly show.

Ole Miss' video production department has won an AVA Digital Media award for their production of "The Season". "The Season" is a weekly show that replaces the old school weekly coach's show that a lot of schools did. Rather than just being highlights and the coach saying a whole lot of nothing, the Ole Miss approach is to focus on a player or two each week, show some practice and game highlights, and focus more on the team rather than each individual game.

Here's a link to the most recently released show which is now focusing on basketball:

As a fan that lives almost 650 miles away from Dallas, it would be nice to see the more personal side of our teams and coaches along with a bit of an "inside look" at our programs.

Would love to see SMU produce something like this

We had this for a couple of years or so. One thing I noticed is that it got almost no discussion on this board. If a show about SMU football cannot generate discussion here, then that says a lot. Personally, I found it incredibly boring. I wanted to like it but I just couldn't.

And yet I liked it very much and missed it when it stopped showing. Much better than just a boring coach's show. Of course we did not get a boring coach's show either so now we have nothing.

Boring coach's show or coach's boring show? Or both?

Dual not duel.

Du-al - consisting of two parts, elements, or aspects.

Du-el - a contest with deadly weapons arranged between two people in order to settle a point of honor.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't be glued to the TV if some enterprising fellow decided to broadcast a competitive dueling league.

Never even knew we had one. Went back and watched the first episode of it and thought it was ok but not all that great. Really didn't like the first 2 minutes being dedicated to letting our own players and coaches tell us how much we sucked.

The biggest problem with our show was the cheesy background music that would play so loudly over the players and coaches talking that you couldn't hear anything. Also, it really wasn't that exciting of a group or season when you look at the big picture of it all.

Not that they need an added distraction, but think about how much more interesting it would be to follow the hoops teams, these players and most of all the coaches.

I think the show was called "The Stampede" or something like that.

That's a production issue.

Unless you have a crystal ball, you can't tell before a season who will have a exciting/great year and decide to document them.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. Would be very interesting to be able to keep up with this team's development in a bit more personal way.
