Mudiay sinks game winner

Incredible 3 pointer to win:

I think we need to get a 'Happy Birthday' chorus going during Louisville.

Emmanuel Mudiay didn’t have the best game of his illustrious high school basketball career. But when it mattered most, he rose to the occasion.

Down by two with four seconds remaining, Mudiay caught an inbounds pass over his shoulder and hit a double clutch three-pointer of the backboard at the buzzer to give Prime Prep a 58-57 win over Kimball in the last game of the DFW Metroplex Challenge– the charter school’s first victory over a DISD team.

”Without God, that shot is not possible,” Mudiay said. “We didn’t play well the whole game. Everybody got tired real quick. We played sloppy. But we ended up coming away with the victory. “

Mudiay, one of the premier point guards in the nation, only had one point at halftime and seemed frustrated by Kimball small forward D’Angelo Allen’s length and aggressiveness. Kimball point guard Jawun Evans, who led all scorers with 22 points, also got the best of him at times.

But Mudiay finished with 15 points and never lost confidence.

“They were trying to go after me really hard. Obviously, they were being really aggressive,” Mudiay said. “I got in foul trouble early so I had to be a little resistant. But we got the victory.”

Mudiay only has a few more games left at Prime Prep then he’s off to SMU. A five-star prospect, Mudiay chose the Mustangs over offers from the likes of Arizona, Kansas and Kentucky.

“SMU is having a wonderful season. Next year, I just want to go in and do my part and do what the team needs me to do,” Mudiay said. “I went when they beat Memphis, so I’m just looking forward to going to the Louisville game. That’s on my birthday so I’m excited about that.

“I’m going to feel like I’m a new basketball player after I learn from (Larry Brown) because he’s been through it all. He’s a Hall of Fame coach. It’s just going to be a blessing to play for someone that’s been through it all.”

For now, Mudiay is focused on leading Prime Prep to the National High School Invitational title game. Last year, Prime Prep reached the championship but fell just short in a 57-55 loss to Florida’s Montverde Academy.

But Mudiay thinks this year will be different.

“I’m definitely praying for it. That’s the goal to get back to the national championship,” Mudiay said. “There is no doubt we can (win it).”

He will pack em in next year. You think a home ticket is hard to get now - just wait until folks get a load of Mudiay.

He's got MJ sized mitts. That affords him to be able to do special things. Work ethic will determine how far he goes. As hoopmanx says, he's the bugatti! :-)

PP plays at home tonight vs. Houston Redemption Christian Homeschool academy at 7:30p if any PFs wanna go. I'm going to try to make it. Last game I went to there were several SMU fans there, including LB.

Redemption has OU commit Khadeem Lattin.
