SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

My flight was taking off from Love about the same time as tipoff for the Houston Game. We flew over downtown Dallas and all the red made me wonder if it was an accident or if they were supporting Houston. From the air, a bit more blue would have been reassuring.
As an aside, I used the SMU Mustang app to keep up with the game. Not perfect (scores, stats and play by play comments) and a bit delayed but better than nothing at 35,000 ft.
