Potentially awful ... See cowboys games

Agreed, basketball does not belong in a dome. Awful. Last year sucked.

You take that back. The dome was rocking

This is hilarious. While I know it's a joke, I'm going to take it seriously for a second:

In basketball terms, where are we relative to where football was in 2009? I say we are already past it, assuming (as I do) that the UConn win got us safely in the tourney. Hawaii Bowl might have been bigger story just because of Death Penalty and Pony Excess, but media exposure is high for this team too. And making the tourney means more on the field since that was a second-tier bowl for a team that benefitted from playing in a mediocre conference, unlike this team that beats good teams. And having a theoretical championship hope because basketball is not stupid like football and has an actual playoff is another point for this team over 2009 football.

Not dogging 2009 football game in Hawaii because I was at the game and it is still one of my favorite sports memories after the hellish experience it was to be a football fan when I was at SMU.

Only about 50 teams make the tournament based on the strength of their performance or 1 in 7. There are about half the football teams in Div 1a that make a bowl and so about 1/4 who win. So, even getting in the first round would come close and winning any round would exceed it.

Beating ranked teams and being ranked is the difference.

But it is far easier to turn around a Bball program quickly. There are plenty of programs that have had more sustained success than SMU and then returned to unranked middle of the pack teams.

Wake Forest, GA Tech, Vandy, Utah to name a few.

Yes, that was written in sarcastic font, and I agree with most everything you wrote. I still remember how proud I was watching that first Hawaii Bowl (and the second one for that matter). Those games should have been stepping stones to more aspirational goals IMO. I've been a football season ticket holder since before Ford opened, and normally only attended 2 or 3 basketball games per season. I've been to every home basketball game this year except for the opener, and with the exception of our football bowl wins and the odd win over a ranked TCU team, the energy at Moody is hard to top.

Were you there? I hated it, but I hated the one year I went down to Atlanta when UK was there, just sucks imo. I don't think I'm going to use my FF tickets this year after going for it last year. It was fun as hell, just not the right venue for a basketball game imo
