Horn is a sports media guy not a sports guy. I do think he has a point in the media in general. Cowboys take about 90% if the air in season or off season. Over the years Dallas has evolved into a pro sports town. Even UT and the Big XII and SEC play second fiddle. So SMU basketball is a second sport second league and small time to all these guys.

I had hoped that since LB was essentially a pro coach for all these years it would garner more media attention locally. With all that said I am not disappointed in the media SMU has generated. It's just not as prominent a story as it deserves to be.

Shock the World.

I hope LB lives another 10 years at least, and dies on the court as SMU sinks a buzzer beater to win yet another National championship

just demonstrates that they're all lemmings and will only write about what everyone else is writing about. Essentially, they're all hacks, not journalists.

give it a little time, we've been in the desert for a long time and people have lost their roadmaps to us. LB is leading us out of the desert and we'll be a huge story very soon if we keep winning

Plus, I'm not sure what more we want the local media to report on us. We're getting a lot of love on sports radio, all the local networks have done stories/reports on our wins and students camping out for tickets. Bill Nichols of the DMN has had several feature stories over the last couple of months. The one thing I'd like to see is a feature story on a player or two - Markus and/or Nic....maybe something on Jank, Ulric or KT. Otherwise, the coverage has been fine.

People [deleted] about the media coverage of this team are high.
It is unreal how much love we have gotten in the last month - locally and nationally.
DMN has written more stories about us and had us on the front of Sports more in the last two months than anytime since the 1980s.
The Ticket talks about us near daily now, and not just mentions in tickers, but full on segments. The Hardline LOVES US.
Heck, the local stations, who maybe do two minutes of sports tops in their newscasts, have had people at our home games. Ch. 4 even had their morning show at a student campout for tickets! That still blows my mind.
I know this board loves to look for perceived slights and bias and sometimes they are out there (hello Mr. Shipp of Ch. 8 ) but 95% of our media exposure has been fantastic in print, TV, radio and online.

I remember back when John Thompson took over at Georgetown. The first year no coverage (except that they had hired a black coach from St. Anthony's). Second year they go to the NIT (then a much bigger deal) and had ugly uniforms more coverage. Slowly but surely the coverage got better and they moved from McDonough Gym to USAir Arena when Ewing arrived. They knocked UMD off the front of the sports page until Gary Williams arrived and let the Terps to their own National Championship. So, we need a burst of success followed by sustained success to get fan attention and media attention. I want Moody to be the hottest ticket in town.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Interesting piece Channel 4s Dan Godwin did early morning inside Moody when he spoke of when he was in a frat at UCLA when LB coached there - he visited their fraternity house - said he is the same guy now as he was then. Held up several photos. Nice connection. Howdy Moody!

To clarify, I think the biases and slights that are being perceived have to do with a larger overall attitude towards this school, not just the athletic teams. (At least in my opinion). Look at how the school is being/has been talked about in a variety of subjects - sports, academics, greek life - all of it, compared to some other regional schools. There is a definite difference. Coverage has improved, no doubt. But I don't know how much that's saying given what is has been in the past.

Also, sorry for the back to back posts.
