I don't totally disagree with your last point; college hoops coaches are about as sleazy as they come. But the reason college basketball works is because alumni care and are involved, therefore you get more donations for better coaches, better facilities, etc. To get back to the LB/Cuban debate, you don't have that in the NBDL. And NBDL player salaries are between $13-25K. So I'll concede this- if a guy wants to come out of HS and go play in empty gyms for an entire year with zero exposure (quick, name two NBDL teams- I can't) and make next to nothing, he should be allowed to do that instead of playing college basketball.

We can agree then. If they don't get draft send them to the NBDL. To be honest regarding the curriculum issue a lot of football coaches and alumni are they same. They just want the kid eligible so they can use those better facilities to win. In fact, one of the things Coach Jones was complaining about was the we needed an easier curriculum so the athletes could stay eligible and a lot of the alumni agreed.

Right, but at the same time, what you learn in the classroom is a pretty small part of your learning experience in college, at least in my opinion. I love SMU and I'm not disparaging it because I think this is probably the case most places, but I can count on one hand the number of classes I took at SMU where I actually learned something useful vs. crammed for an exam and regurgitated information. College is about being away from home, discovering yourself (as cliche as that sounds), learning how to network and interact with others in your age group, live on your own, etc. I learned a ton of stuff at SMU that wasn't taught in any classrooms.
