we were up big for most of the 1st 10 minutes. I think it was actually 22-7 at one point.

radio said SMU led for 38 or 39 of the 40 minutes. Fresno only had the lead twice, the second being when it really counted.

That is really weak.... I think SMU has only won 1 close game this year. Need to toughen up and play smart. Would have been a great win.

same old reasons. Lack of rebounding and defensive toughness when it counts. We lost the rebounding battle by 12 in the second half. With a 4 point lead and 1:20 remaining SMU gave up like 3 offensive boards and finally Fresno drained a 3 pointer. On the game winning shot, Fresnos guard drives the lane and floats it in from 8 feet. Thats exactly what happened at La Tech too, a little guy takes it in the lane and beats us. Can't have that and still be a good team. It sounded to me like Simpson was being subbed out the game for defensive possesions near the end. I dont think he was in foul trouble.

Yep, that is because he plays soft.

newsflash, there is a 35 second shot clock in college basketball. How do you figure we could have run the clock out? There was more time on the game clock than the shot clock.

in the match? We talkin tennis or hoops? 12 seconds is an eternity and would have been plenty for them to score. Holding the ball would not have been good strategy. All you wanted was a good open shot.

It would have been 7 seconds - you take the clock to the limit , before trying to score -

No, you don't. First and foremost you need to get a good shot with a one point lead in that situation. Running the clock down to the last possible second usually leads to a desperation shot. They stopped us and we couldn't stop them from driving the lane. Ball game.

I think we are saying the same thing - you work longer for an open shot instead of forcing with so much time left - I am also saying I would rather run out the shot clock if you have a lead rather then force something - always easy to second guess when you are not on the floor in the last few seconds. 7 seconds is an inbound and two passes tops - I say we would have won had we given them that instead of 25 seconds.
