Crum Center opening ceremony

Postby George S. Patton » Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:28 pm

I along with a SRO crowd in the women's practice court attended the ceremony.

I'm in awe. It's an amazing piece of work. Hopefully, others on this board got a chance to go or will have a chance to take a self-guided tour.

From the ceremony to the structure, when SMU puts its mind to it, we do a helluva job. This is something that all of us can feel enormous pride at having.

This dream has been realized. Now, let's get some players and put the Ws behind the $$.

I agree, but that is what I thought about Ford. The Crum Center is fabulous. Once the renovations to Moody occur, there will be no more excuses.

That place is absolutely amazing.
If anyone has not yet taken the tour, you need to do so. It will knock your doors off.

I saw a photographer walking around, snapping away. Two, actually - one looked like a student, so I'm guessing he was Daily Campus maybe? The other clearly was not a student, so he could have been Dallas Morning News, working for the university itself, Associated Press - hard to say.

Now that the Crum Center is done we can move on to funding and building a new aquatic center to replace Perkins Natatorium

First, there is a little bit of money owed on the Crum Center that still needs to be raised. Second, the "asks" for funding on a new natatorium are already underway. Also, I want to say that at the last board meeting I attended it was announced that a lead donor had been secured on either the natatorium or the indoor tennis facility, but I honestly can't remember which. FYI, the new outdoor stadium was funded as a part of the Crum Center project, since it displaced the existing outdoor courts. I believe it is close to completion as well.

Correct.

The lead gift for the new Aquatic Center has NOT been secured. Although almost $10M by Friends of SMU Swimming, etc. has been committed, we still require a lead donor.

I can be reached at this site. 8)

I think widening the concourse and up grading the concession stands are part of it. Probably the visitor's locker room will get an up grade. Once you start up dating a facility all the new ADA requirements come into play so the restrooms and handicap access will need to be up dated. I assume game related items such as the PA system will get upgraded and hopefully the lighting also. There has been talk on occasion of adding luxury boxes although I have no clue as to whether or not that kind of changes are in the plan. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.
