Why is Dallas Academy so bad? The coach got fired for bucking the administration. If he'd said that it wouldn't happen again (i.e., scheduling such a weak team), he'd still have his job. He's owed a buyout for the rest of the year at least. He also shouldn't have a problem getting a job. At least he wasn't the one who LOST 100-0.
Fascists huh? You are really trying to defend a guy for thinking its OK and just playing the game to humiliate another team by winning 100-0. What did he prove, what real lessons did he teach his kids?
I'm not saying that you don't have to play the game or play hard, even if the opponent is weaker. But, to utterly humiliate them? What does that prove? He deserves to be fired and is a clown for saying that he disagreed with the school's apology. People who are defending this guy are just as warped as people as he is. Fire away on me if you want, you elitists. I'm cool with it. But, this guy is a jerk and deserves all the critisism that he gets.
Did he get canned because he beat the other team 100-0, or because he publicly disagreed with the apology issued by his bosses? My guess is that it was probably the latter.
What did he expect would happen? That he'd get a raise? This guy is now in the realm of the galactically stupid, for more than one reason.
Can we hire this chump for our Mens Basketball coach?? He turned Covenant from a 2 win team to state champs. Orsini go get him
Guy I work with was a HS basketball coach at a private school before going to law school. He said he absolutely would have been canned if he had coached a team to 100-0. He said they once beat a team by 45 and got lectured by the headmaster.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
No man. Everyone's told us here that you disrespect your opponent by letting up.
The losing team hasn't won a single game in several years according to DMN article from a few days ago. The whole team is full of kids play for fun - no athletes. It isn't beyond the relm of possibility that Covenant's total scrub bench warmers could keep them from scoring. Why do you want them to do, stand there and let the other team score?
There's not much this coach could do to help himself. He just made it worse from his comments. At that point, administration had no choice except firing.
"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"
No, he didnt make them state champs. The linked article calls them "contenders", but they never won a title. The article also says they play bigger schools in their non-conference games, but when I looked at their schedule all I saw was other tiny private schools and Home School teams. It's not like they're a powerhouse, or they're looking for serious competition. Any decent AAA public school would blow them out of the gym. The JV teams at Rockwall, Mansfield or Duncanville could beat Covenant worse than they beat Dallas Academy. To answer tristatecoog, Dallas Academy is that bad because it's a tiny private school for kids with learning disabilities. Their students are dyslexic, have ADD, or memory problems. There are only 20 girls in the entire school, and 8 play basketball, for most of them it's the first time they played any kind of organized sports. I read Mr. Pony's comments in another thread where he claimed that Covenant did DA a favor, because this would force them to either improve their "program" or drop it. That's beyond ludicrous. Dallas Academy doesnt have a "Program", they have an after school activity for their students. It's supposed to be a learning and growth experience for a few kids who have trouble learning. That's what it's for, no one there has delusions about winning championships or getting college scholarships. It's just supposed to be a healthy activity for a group of kids who need a little bit of help. What's "unbelievable" is that the coach is still trying to claim he didnt run up the score. Typical bully mentality. And then he publicly disagreed with his bosses after they apologized? Now there is a truly special kind of stupidity. If Coach Grimes wants to be the coach of a real "program" take a job at a place where competition is paramount. Go to one of the big schools, that plays other big schools, someplace where the competition is serious. What he did at Covenant was take a team competitive at the lowest level, and then found a team weak enough for his own group to demolish. 100-0 reeks of a man feeding his own ego at the expense of children, that's why so many people find it kind of deplorable. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
