OT: Flyin' to the Hoops Tournament

Postby OhioBrownFan » Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:25 pm

I'm heading down to Dayton tomorrow for the games. I'll be watching E-Man and PP. Also be seeing a lot of other guys, I'll obviously be there to see them but also the Buckeye commits and some other good players around the nation. I probably will have a chance to talk to a few of the guys as the guys I'm going with are high school basketball recruiting analysts. I may have a chance to ask them a few questions if anyone has anything or wants to know something. I'll obviously give my feedback on Mudiay, take it with a grain of salt but I'll talk to some other coaches and analysts who've seen far more from him and get their feedback as well.

I know PP has a couple younger guys coming through that are very highly ranked as well. University (IL) is also loaded and I assume Brown will be on a couple of their younger guys given the fact that they are not far outside of Chicago. Unfortunately, I won't be catching the HCYA (TX) game as it's early in the morning and I have other commitments but I will get feedback from that game as well. As I said before, it's a pretty pro-Ohio event given that it's being played here so there won't be a ton of SMU recruits there but just wanted to bring it to the board and let people know. I'll post my thoughts in here as the games progress tomorrow.

Nice, OBF! Ask Eman if he plans to attend a game at Moody anytime soon. Also, if there's anyone he's been talking to about joining him at SMU in the 2014 class. Thanks and look forward to your posts.

Definitely, I will for sure do that, was planning on asking him as well. I really have no idea where guys sit on SMU's board. I feel so disconnected from the program not having any inside info or guys on the inside there so I planned on asking him just that. I'll talk to a few of the SW analysts as well and will have a much better beat coming out of there I'm sure.

HCYA (TX) beat Franklin (OH) by 3 tonight. Luke Kennard (#24 in 2015) fouled out. Him and Jackson (#8 in 2014, UNC commit) both had huge nights.

Dayton Dunbar and Marian Catholic is a 1 point game at half. Pretty surprising. Have some major prospects going in that game. OSU commit in Harris, and Kentucky commit with Ullis both playing among a bunch of younger guys. Dunbar is always loaded for Ohio but they're DII and I really thought Marian would put the screws to them. They'll be pretty solid in the state tournament but probably won't make it to state.

I got a chance to look over the box scores, Kennard finished with 38 points. Big time player in the 2015 class. Jackson also poured in over 30. Kennard is probably heading to Kentucky when it's said and done, it's his childhood favorite even though he grew up in Ohio. Really fun player to watch, going to be an elite scorer at the next level, reminds me of Stauskas a lot, more developed, better finisher at the same stage.

Watching shaker Heights out of Cleveland and Christian brothers out of Missouri. Esa ahmad is a real nice player. Easily the most impressive on the floor. He's got 26 late in the 4th, offers from Clemson, v tech, iIowa, xavier, Rutgers, etc. I like his game a lot, good around the rim, Bout 6'8 combo forward. Going to need to work on his strength and finishing around the rim but he's going to be a good one. There's also a Texas commit for Christian brothers. He's been very unimpressive. Garbage buckets to get to 15, but he fouled out early in the 4th. Christian brothers is down by 6 to a team that won't even make it out of district play this year in Ohio. Very surprised, usually a top 5 team in Missouri. The Texas commits name is Jordan Barnett. Can't imagine he's highly rated. Looks like a big time project.

Watching St Vincent St Mary vs University out of Illinoisright now. Big time match up aand high scoring affair. Prime prep is coming up next at 6:45 or so. 79-74 in this one, svsm (LeBron high school). . Vj king is tearing it up, got 28 points, for St Vs. They also got a kid named Jalen Hudson, big time prospect that's under the radar imo going to Virginia Tech HHe's got 21 and they've been effortless and within the offense. Keita Bates-diop, 5*osu commit leading all scorers at 31. Extremely impressive range and taller than his listing at 6'7

Mudiay is about to go. Tip coming up. Phones dying, may have to post thoughts later. But I'll try to post til it dies. He's every bit of 6'5 after standing with him pregame

Mudiay has 6 in the first. Nice board, and nice assist. No range, bricked a 3 and missed another open jumper. Good slashing on a couple drives, very passive quarter tho. The sophomore looks exceptional. Scoring inside and out. Had 8 in the first. Primeprep leads 23-15

He's got to work on his range, no doubt. Again, thanks for the updates

35-34 prime prep at half. Pretty lackluster performance in the first half by PP. Expecting them to come out hot in the 2nd half. Opened the game on a 21-6 run, then Montgomery took over. Best player on the floor in that half. Leads all scorers at 16. Mudiay stats are 6 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 2 turnovers on picks. Ferguson has 12 for PP. Definitely can see the potential but Mudiay needs to be more assertive in the 2nd half.

Prime prep won, not their best performance though. Most impressive kid was probably either Ferguson or Montgomery. Montgomery finished with 23, like his game, little undersized for the D1 level to get major offers. Mudiay was not the same kid I saw on the AAU circuit this summer. He finished with 20, lot of fast break dunks in the 2nd half. Had one real nice reverse. But didn't hit one jumper, probably 0-6 from the field if not counting the lay ups. Guys I was with were expecting more too. You can certainly see the raw athleticism, reminds me of watching John wall in high school. No doubt he has the athleticism to be a big time player, he'll play off the wing at the next level. He seemed almost disinterested at times, looked like a player that could get 40 but he just didn't push himself into the flow very often. Lot of put backs. Also was surprised at how many times he tried to post people up, garfield is extremely small outside of David bell and bell is awful. Cannot believe osu is taking him. I think he went 1-9 from the free throw line and completely botched a dunk. He won't be at osu past year two, really pathetic.

PP plays again tomorrow. I won't be there but they play a much better team, going to see how Mudiaydoes in that one. Probably was just one of those nights, the whole PP team looked pretty passive

Good recap, OBF. I've seen probably ten PP games and a couple of times Mudiay has looked disinterested. It happens. No doubt he's an unbelievable talent.

You missed a good one tonight against Hofstra. Granted it was a huge drop off in competition but we completely dominated.
