The students at midcourt are great, so, why can't we fill the other 70% of those bleachers with students?

I sit in the section behind the Memphis bench. My section is for visiting players' families and friends of the visiting program, and additional seating for season ticket holders. This area was originally slated for students but NCAA rules do not allow student to be that close to the visiting bench.

My section as well. Seemed full to me. About half Memphis people. The student sections on either side of this were completely full and it absolutely was bothering the Memphis bench. Was great to see the students getting after it.

This is not a NCAA rule at all. It might be a conference rule. If you watched the osu vs isu game last night, behind the ISU bench was the usual 2 rows of about 15 seats for the Visiting section, then the next two rows is part of the student section

Same as Michigan, Michigan St, etc. I'm thinking there has to be 2 rows in front of the students

It might be a distance thing, our lower level are incredibly close to the benches. Either way that is what the ticket office told me.

Its the same as our football student section, some students said they would probably go to more games if there were better student section seats (I dont know how true that is) and when it was looked into, conference rules stated we couldnt be past the like 25 yard line on the opposing side. Same thing for the mountain west and pac 12 I believe

More likely, its just SMU being SMU. I've watched plenty of other games this year where the students are in the 3rd row right behind the other teams bench being loud as hell. It looks bad when we have an entire section of basically no one in it or doing anything

I was in that section behind the Memphis bench and it was not empty.

It was about as lively as a shuffle board match at a retirement home

Always good to know the student perspective. I believe this is probably somewhat of a factor, but I find that sort of thing laughable and a huge copout on the part of those students. I was a student in the current Ford era and I never had much issue with the location of the student section when I attended. It's a pretty good view of the game, and it's a great spot to heckle the visiting team. 50 yard line it is not, but not bad at all. Those students are either incredibly entitled (I know, I know, it's SMU) or they aren't being honest that they would rather drink on the Boulevard or elsewhere than be at the game.

Well yeah, its a pretty sorry excuse if you ask me. But even as a huge college football fan, I have to admit our section in ford isnt fantastic. It still should be a non factor for people to go to the game, especially since you can sit pretty much anywhere during the game

The student section behind the basket on our bench side didn't appear 100% full to me the past couple games.
