Breakout playerA little birdie told me the guy we thought would be the breakout player last season is working and playing like he will be this season - Ben Moore. He has all the tools. If he can play to his potential, look out.

Re: Breakout playerKey is his body holding up. He was never 100% last year
Re: Breakout playerBen has sky high potential. But I still like S. Brown
Re: Breakout playerWould be nice if Ben E can find his shot this season.

Re: Breakout playerAfter Ben M, I think Gu is the most likely to have a breakout season. We did not see even close to his best last season. As for Sterling, the most underrated player we have by a mile. He's never going to put up big numbers but he's as solid as it gets.

Re: Breakout playerBen Moore has to develop jumper. Has to make defenders respect it to reach full potential.
Re: Breakout playerBM is due for a huge season. High hopes here.
Re: Breakout playerI'll repeat what I have said in earlier posts - although from various other postings it would
appear that not many agree with me. Don't get me wrong - I like Ben Moore, but he needs more physicality. I firmly believe Jordan Tolbert & Semi will be the breakout players in the coming year. Having said that, wouldn't it be nice if Ben, Gu, and Sterling joined them.
Re: Breakout playerSterling has the potential to grow as much as any SMU player we have had. He has hit the 3 point shot and contributed in every facet of the game in a supporting role. As he becomes an upperclassmen there is no reason he can't develop into a team leader. B. Moore will grow into a star by the time he graduates

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Breakout playerI hope all of the above predictions come true in addition to Nic and Markus being the monsters that they are on the court and we should be at least a Sweet 16 team.
#Beat Clemson
Re: Breakout playerSterling has been Mr. Glue since he got here. Just a great contributor in all facets. Any improvement, and he can become Super Glue.
Re: Breakout playerIt all depends on what you mean by a breakout player. If you're talking going from Solid to Great, you have one set of eligible players. If it's from small role to much bigger role (or from small stats to bigger stats), that's a different set of players.
I wouldn't consider Sterling a candidate for Breakout player just because I think his game is mostly already where you expect it to be in terms of his potential. I think he's a really consistent 3 pt shot from being a complete player at his position/height. The rest of his game is 90% there. In some ways, I think you could say the same for Tolbert. He already had some nice stats at Tech, so I don't really consider him a breakout candidate, even though it will seem that way since he sat out a year. Emelogu and Semi seem like the biggest breakout candidates to me, followed by Ben Moore. And I don't really know what to make of the freshmen. Probably will be enough of an ask to get them adjusted to the college game.
Re: Breakout playerBen and Streling have been contributing players in the program long enough to be considered "seniors" even though they are not. That should translate to guys who provide "senior leadership" along with Markus and Nic.
Tolbert and Semi have been here awhile as observers and practice participants. This worked well with past transfers Markus and Nic and hasn't seemed to work as well with the "play right away" hardships guys. The depth here is amazing. Most likely not everyone plays to his potential at all times (last year's Gu and the Xavier dude as example). There also may be some injuries. But you have to love the depth and experience. I'd much prefer a "breakout team" to a breakout player. Party at The Wopper!
Re: Breakout playerSterling is the [deleted]. If he gets slightly bouncier with a tad more speed, he can be all AAC good IMHO. We all know he's the poster child for a junkyard dog but I think the kid could be a superstar. He needs to start.
