President Turner considering an appealFOX 4 NEWS Verified account
â€@FOX4 SMU President Turner says there are a "couple of things that we know we are going to consider very seriously appealing." #HammerDown
Re: President Turner considering an appealThought the press conference went as well as it could.
Lots of emphasis by Hart and Turner on rest of the team punished for something they didn't do, which is a good talking point re: postseason ban. ![]()
Re: President Turner considering an appealThe NCAA, after months of tightening the noose, managed to make a glaring, fundamental error in its ruling. This may significantly enhance our chances on appeal.
Re: President Turner considering an appealAlso multiple mentions that everyone at SMU was surprised the NCAA deemed KF an ineligible player, thus the vacated 2013-14 wins.

Re: President Turner considering an appealTurner also threw in a little quote without mentioning the school's name that this had been
going on for 8 years, and at SMU was 1 instance which was self turned in when found out ![]() ![]() Last edited by PlanoStang on Tue Sep 29, 2015 2:46 pm, edited 1 time in total.
May the forth be with us.
Re: President Turner considering an appeal
Not sure I follow. Can you expand on this?
Re: President Turner considering an appealI really don't see how we can NOT appeal this. Yes, mistakes were made and the people involved (that have been CONFIRMED to be involved) are no longer associated with the program. Coach Brown made some mistakes that should be addressed, but for all of the "we're SMU, this is just what happens to us" crap floating around, you have to stand up to the bully and punch him in the damned mouth even if it means he punches back. There are too many cases of this fraud of an organization looking the other way for us to simply roll over and take our licks like the NCAA did us some damned favor. Would we win an appeal? I have no idea and I'll leave it to the lawyers here to knock that around, but if we really are serious about being a big-time athletic program, then big-time athletic programs don't take this kind of thing lying down. I'm not proud of what happened or with some of how certain people responded to it, but equating one case of academic impropriety for a course that turned out to be unneeded to similar cases in which a decade or more of similar instances at a much more systemic level occurred is reckless and irresponsible and if we don't say so now, who will? Tired of being the damned whipping boy; time to start whipping back. OK, rant over.
"I don't think anyone around the country has any idea how good we are going to be." - Coach Justin Stepp

Re: President Turner considering an appealabsolutely could not agree more. If the administration takes this laying down then we can all just give up and save our money. It means we give up as a University.
Appealing = sending a signal to our university community and to our student athletes, past present and future that we have their back and wont leave them stranded at least without fighting if something unfair happens. Not appealing = capitulation, therefore don't blame me if I capitulate on other items related to SMU.
Re: President Turner considering an appeal
Now that is what I call a tease. Can you elaborate?
Re: President Turner considering an appealThe one time I've seen us stand up against this kind of treatment (a Southwest Conference action involving Track & Field in the early 80's), the bully backed down. We must punch back. Hard.
Re: President Turner considering an appealThat is what I like to hear.
Re: President Turner considering an appeal
This. Pony up!

Re: President Turner considering an appeal
Indeed, elaborate. Or don't put this out there.
