UCF attendance

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Mon Jan 11, 2016 11:04 am

Pretty weak. Coming off the enormous media coverage from the Cinci game, there should have been a line around the block, to see this undefeated, entertaining, 15th ranked team. Where were the students and fans, that made it to Thursdays game? The small center court section, where the Mob sits, wasn't even full. The bleachers behind our bench were sparse, as were the east bleachers. Red seats were decent, but many, many, blocks of unused blue seats looked like an exhibition game. I don't want to hear the expected excuses, from the normal apologist. If you want a big time program, act like one. This is a SPECIAL team, that DEMANDS our support.

As I looked up into the suites - there were a lot of empty seats in the suites with a couple of the suites looking like 3-4 people in a Suite that seats 12-20 people.

Why are the High Rollers/Companies buying the suites and then not distributing the tix to those suites? What a waste. They should give back to SMU and re-sell the suites or allow the MC give away one in a contest like they did for football.

You will hear the same tired arguments: NFL Playoffs, nap time for kids, non-name opponent, bad start time.

This team is special and deserves a full house. Period.

It's still SMU. Houston game will be packed. School starts Friday. Unless spring break starts the following week, we should have a full MOB. Mobsters who don't wear the school colors ought to be relegated to the baseline bullies. The "I'm-too-stupid-to-wear-an-SMU-shirt" people in the MOB make the group look bad on television.

I think the expectations in this thread are a bit unreasonable. Its easy to forget that this game against this opponent at this time pre LB wouldn't have drawn flies.

I have been amazed all year at the turnout against teams that don't exactly raise your pulse. Don't forget that the new fans aren't diehards yet, they are still bandwagon. Baby steps.

I actually thought attendance was pretty good given it was before school resumed and it was against a nothing opponent.

UCF attendance

Postby skyscraper » Mon Jan 11, 2016 11:46 am

There were no students there because of rush. It was kinda weird to see frat rush rounds going on as everyone was walking to Moody.
I thought the crowd was fine. We have a solid 5k at every game now.

Seriously? Another attendance thread? Place was 90% full. Suites and Red Seats always have open spots and they are amplified since the are by the floor and lit up.

Go watch other teams arenas and you will be a little more realistic.

Agreed the team deserves a full house, but it is not going to happen every game.

Bang, and here comes the aforementioned apologist...."we're just little ole' SMU"..."gee wiz school is out"..."baby steps, even though we won 27 games in each of the previous two seasons and we're undefeated now". Loser attitudes, if you don't expect much, that's exactly what you will get.

Thought it was pretty decent for UCF. Really thought it was weak on SMU's part seeing kids doing rush rounds as everyone was making their way to Moody. You would think that a part of rush would be going to that game and filling the student sections

careful...people are going to think I brought you over to the dark side. While our attendance is much improved because we now have as nice an arena and as good a bball team as anyone in the country, the culture at SMU "is what it is", so I don't expect SMU to ever show like State School U does for football and bball. I'm going to stop my constant whining about our attendance issues and I've stopped making excuses when my ACC & SEC friends ask me about it. Meanwhile, I hear Clemson is traveling almost 40,000 to Phoenix for tonight's game...and I expect most will all be wearing orange. Just look at the bright side...it's easier (and cheaper) to buy tickets to SMU games.

If you watch college basketball only marquee matchups during the regular season are truelly full. We get like 80% full against no names which is great and moody has a design that makes 80% full loud and a good atmosphere.

When the students are not around, it is difficult for most teams to draw a really good crowd.

- Last week, UT hosted Uconn at the SuperDrum - the entire upper deck was empty. The lower deck wasn't exactly packed. The crowd at my graduation ceremony made more noise.
