No doubt the guy can play well at a high level and we know LB loved him but we certainly didn't need the worry if he would stay eligible and the possible APR impact. We are outta strikes when it comes to that.

It will be nice when we reach the point where we have cleaned up our APR enough to be able to take on the occasional academic gamble.

Agreed. Are we in safe territory for APR right now or are we still in serious danger of getting a postseason ban for next season? (Since MK didn't graduate and KF transferred below acceptable GPA)

Outstanding. I thought we were still in a questionable zone, but that's great.

You can check our APR here: http://web1.ncaa.org/maps/aprRelease.jsp

2014-2015 it was 939 for Men's Basketball. Not sure what we were for 2015-2016--with 2 transfers with bad GPAs and Markus, i'm not sure what what it could have been.

http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2015/663_2015_apr.pdf

Currently, teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years to participate in NCAA championships. In 2015-16 and beyond, teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships.

I loved Coach Brown as a coach, but it should be clear by now that he did us no favors, either with the NCAA or the scorched earth attitude he took when he left. This school needs a clean slate and an extended period of time where the words SMU and NCAA violation don't roll off the tongue with ease. Maybe one day someone will at a minimum raise an eyebrow and comment of "who? SMU?"

Yes we had to take some gambles to get us to this level, but I would rather have a team of Ben Moore and Sterling Brown battling every year to be a top 25 program, than 3 KFs and a constant buzz about academics or cutting corners.

We've come too far, and struggled too much to go down with a ship that couldn't get admitted into the academic paragon known as The University of Arkansas. There was way too much attention drawn to his academic situation that once again, the NCAA narrative would've been, "that school just doesn't get it." I hope he excels and proves the NCAA and the system wrong. But I agree with the others, we couldn't take the chance.

I agree with you that we can't go backwards from here. And I'll admit that LB Didn't blink when it came to recruiting..... and it cost us. But he also brought us out of total irrelevance practically overnight. I thank him for that. And whatever role he played in bringing HCCM I thank him for that. And I thank the school for having Jank as next man up.

I showed up in Dallas as a new SMU student athlete in 1973. What a long strange trip it's been.

Absolutely correct. We're good to avoid a post-season ban.

We're not in a position to take any academic risks at all. Just making sure everyone knew which question you were answering.

Yeah, I know what standards are required and where we are at currently. What I heard there was a fear of is the last year score, that we will find out in April, could drag our four year mark under 930. I had just heard there was some worry of that, but wasn't sure if it had been calculated or found that we would probably be OK. 94 seems to think so.
