SMU NET rankingsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower SMU NET rankingsWe're # 131...well ahead of # 153 Oregon, # 228 LMU and # 278 Missouri in these wacky rankings that have Wagner College at # 23
Fortunately there is a lot of basketball still to be played https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketbal ... t-rankings Last edited by Charleston Pony on Mon Jan 03, 2022 1:27 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: 1st NET rankings outNote Dayton at # 95 is 2-0 vs Quad I opponents
Re: 1st NET rankings out
Balance that with the fact that their losses were atrocious.
Re: 1st NET rankings out
They have 2 quad 3 losses and 1 quad 4 SMU has 1 quad 3 loss and 2 quad 4 losses Yes; our guys really need to win this game
Re: 1st NET rankings outWow, really? I guess I underestimated Belmont and Austin Peay.
Re: 1st NET rankings outFWIW, Kenpom has SMU at 78 and Dayton at 94. And Belmont at 58 and Austin Peay at 252.

Re: 1st NET rankings out
Belmont has been solid for years now
Re: 1st NET rankings out
Yeah - which in all honesty probably already eliminates us no matter what we do the rest of the way. Shake It Off Moody
Re: 1st NET rankings out
Probably have to finish in top 4 of the AAC, beat either Houston or Memphis or both at least once and finish no worse than runner up in AAC Tourney to have any hope. Winning the rest of our non-conference games would be a good place to start. Dayton might be tough and New Mexico's snake pit is always a tough place to win
Re: 1st NET rankings outRight. I think we should keep in mind as well that there’s a lot of up and down movement in the NET rankings as the season plays out. The NCAA says in their explanation of how they work that you really shouldn’t start to pay much attention to them until January. (And even in March, they are not dispositive, but an input to the committee’s decision about who’s in).
In other words, “quality wins” are retrospective. It may turn out that beating Vandy is huge. We don’t know right now. Maybe losing to Oregon will be huge. The solution is of course to beat everyone you should, win a few that could have gone either way, and win a couple you shouldn’t have. What do y’all think? Do we look like a Tourney team?
Re: 1st NET rankings outI think Vandy will show at teh end of the year as a good team. I was happy with the way SMU looked against them. It looks like we are getting better as we go forward.
Re: 1st NET rankings outOf the twelve SWAC schools, they are just 2-1 at home so far. Congrats to TSU for their win over previously top 25 Florida.
Re: 1st NET rankings outJust for some perspective, after losing our 6 games last season, the women are 4-5 with a 117 NET ranking. The men are 8-3 with a 120 NET ranking. It doesn't take forever to start competing. We have a gem in Toyelle Wilson!
Re: 1st NET rankings outWe can only hope the NET rankings undergo significant positive change (in terms of our opponents). As of today, SMU sits at # 117 and has wins against # 100 (Dayton), 118 (Vandy), 195, 261, 285, 293, 297 & 347 (Northwestern State) and losses vs # 125 (Oregon), 218 & 270 (Missouri). Have to believe Dayton, Vandy, Missou, Oregon and maybe UNLV will benefit from conference play once it gets underway
