Re: Beat Houston/Game DayBrown not willing to play anyone on the bench even to give the starters a few minutes rest is really killing the team. They had nothing left the last 10 minutes, especially on defense.
Re: Beat Houston/Game DayOnce again, another close loss that will sting even though we realistically probably shouldn't be expecting to be in all of these games. It still doesn't hurt any less though. I don't have energy for anything tonight.
But, thanks to Shawn for giving us at least one more great basketball memory from the original Moody. That was awesome. What a great comeback by the team when people were already starting to bail out. The team is slowly but surely learning how to win. That turnover late down two in OT though. Ouch. Nice boots on the hostess too. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Beat Houston/Game DayI think our big issue with depth is the inability to play tough defense for 40 minutes. That's what coach preaches and to earn minutes next year, guys will have to play tough D and rebound. We played good D in the 1st half and got offensice opportunities because of it. 2nd half was a different story and guys didn't have the same energy. That allowed Houston to gain confidence as they started hitting open looks.
Beyond that, we still had an opportunity to win this one. I'm surprised we didn't sub in our 3 pt guys on that last possession and go for the win. Where was Bernardi today?
Re: Beat Houston/Game Day
What do you mean slowly but surely learning how to win? SMU is still above .500. The team just has to learn how to win close games, which we haven't done a lot of lately. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Beat Houston/Game DaySMU got the UH coach with the Dallas Mustangs connections, Malagi. Glad to sweep SMU while we could and am looking forward to next years games. Only my fourth game at Moody this year but the. Road was solid with baselines representing well. Wednesday ahould be fun.
Re: Beat Houston/Game Day
After the early season run, we started dropping every close game. (Wyoming, Tulsa, Southern Miss, UCF, etc.) Larry talked about how the team was "afraid to win". The team has really grown up in the past couple of weeks. We took care of Marshall on the road, and then came back from four late to get this one to OT. That's all I meant. It's all good! Re: Beat Houston/Game DayVery disappointing. The Russell turn over in OT was killer. Plus he threw up a lot of junk at the end. Love him as a player but he needs not to try and do it all.
Cunningham shows flashes, but just disappears at times. He should know that his spot is up for grabs and play 100% at all times. If he doesn't he sits next year. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: Beat Houston/Game DayRussell's TO was really careless and not the 1st time he's done that at crunch time...fatigue or just not the right guy to run the point?
Re: Beat Houston/Game Day
Probably a bit of both. It sure is frustrating though! Shake It Off Moody
Re: Beat Houston/Game DayAfter bring up by 19 points at home this was a disappointing loss. But I like the do not give up attitude this team has.

Re: Beat Houston/Game DayMaybe Russell got credit for the turnover, but the pass was within reach for Williams, who played it like a live grenade.
Re: Beat Houston/Game Day
And Williams foul was horrible. Either give it up or make sure there is no basket. But he gets a credit for the killer trey with no time on the clock. For a smart player Russell sure makes a lot if bad decisions in crunch time. I think it make be that he tries to take it all on his own shoulders. But his turnovers in the crucial parts of games is not just a one off thing. Has been a reoccurring theme. And I love him as a player, but he needs to be more careful with the rock. Re: Beat Houston/Game DayFor a team with a HOF coach we sure go in the tank a lot either in 2h (most often) or very late in game (see Tulsa, Wyo). It's like our guys tune LB out. A quote that haunts me is when LB talked about diagramming how we come down in transition...this guy that lane etc...and that despite harping on it, we've done it maybe 5% of the time.
