Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game
I think the part of "lack of academics" people are missing is that it has nothing to do with these kids being stupid and unable to pass, it's that a lack of academics makes it a lot easier to pass so that they can get back to working on the skill that will actually be paying their bills in the future. I'm sure hoopmanx or someone else could clarify for me, but it seems like the lack of academics would be more important for a guy that did plan on being there for a couple years at least. Even a pretty academic school could probably come up w/ a semester or two of blow off classes/professors. There may be other factors I'm not thinking of though.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameI for one am thankful for Hoopmanx's insights and comments! Appreciate someone who has a much better understanding how things really work compared to the majority of us on this board.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game
That's mostly it. It's certainly not a reflection on the kids intelligence, street or book smarts. That said, I know more than a few college assistants who use 'you don't have to go to class' as part of their sales pitch.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game
I appreciate it. Not really trying to ruffle feathers, but when talking about the possibility of landing a kid like turner, we might as well cut to the chase. So much of what was being talked about was extraneous.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameLol no. I underscore computer files too. Habit from old school computer coding
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game#6 shouldn't be a factor with Turner
It is a myth that all SMU classes are so rigorous that student athletes cannot do the work. There are plenty of athlete friendly majors so it shouldn't be a factor, especially with Turner.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game
I agree. This kind of insight is why I monitor the site. However, the attitude is something to question. I will not detail the flaws. Those with a decent amount of common sense understand the underlying implications. I would normally care less, but the faint spoken are not always the faint knowing. Will always defend that.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the game
I know. I was just joking with you. That guy's keyboard had been broken for years. #HammerDown
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameWell said. SMUstangs22 "the faint spoken are not always the faint knowing". Lots of us follow ponyfans.com without feeling the need to post a thing. I think that I have been following ponyfans.com for 15+ years (not that it matters), only to start posting within the past 3 months.
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameHoop, this is turning into a [deleted] match, and trolls only survive by being fed. You're reactive because of all the new posters making threads that suck. Well we make them stay at the top by arguing with them. Also, everyone values your input because you're the most legit SMU Alum with AAU/CBB grit. Thanks for that dude.
Standup, Hoopmanx is coming from the scene and you're telling anecdotal evidence. In my experience, people who have been through the [deleted] know what they' talking about. You have a very bright outlook on the program, and we're all super exited. But those of us who have been around for a long time are honest with the challenges with still face (while still seeing a bright future). Being honest with our shortcomings is what will make us great. Please don't respond with more arguing, because I am not going to respond. Let's just get back to Mile Turner, and his impact on the program. 2009 Ponyfans Rookie of the Year
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameMy take on this thread:
Hoopmanx: come for the basketball knowledge and recruiting insight, stay for the "f*** you, you're an idiot, your misinformed opinion is worthless to me" attitude. ![]()
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameWow, what a thread. We have newbie butthurt, recruiting expertise, AAU, ex-Prez, and what we think Turner wants. Does that cover it all?
Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameLet's see, who should I side with? The guy who provides the site with legitimate inside basketball knowledge, or a bunch of newbie trolls who know nothing? Hmmm...this is tough...

Re: Tweet from Myles Turner after the gameHoopmanx is fine, and i enjoy his post most of the time, but it would be great if he knew half as much as he thinks he knows. There is a lot of basketball knowledge on this board, they just don't all try to shove it down everyones throat. Also - he is an apparel guy, and they always think they are more critical to the enterprise then they really are. Also, your list of 6 items could have been made up by a 9th grader.
We are all having fun watching the Stangs rise up from the ashes to relevance. Lets just enjoy it, embrace everyone and their basketball knowledge or lack thereof, and let the people who really know what they are doing (our coaching staff from top to bottom) work their craft. Go Mustangs!!
