Agree with many of the posts here. Froling looked uncomfortable and out of place for a big. Even if he wanted to be a stretch 4, he looked uncoordinated, out of shape, and scared. We will miss having the height in our lineup and it is always nice to have a big body on the floor to take up space, but unfortunately Froling did not play like a big. Froling was all hype without the delivery. If he thinks that he should have been a starter, he is sadly mistaken. I am not sure that he would start for any team in the AAC. Shocked to hear the news, but honestly I do not think that we will miss much other than having another body in the rotation.

It is going to be tough for our guys being one more man down, but honestly I would much rather give Frolling's minutes to DeShawn McDowell or Ben Gu. Not sure who is going to play the 5 off the bench. I am hopeful that Ben Gu can play down low at 6'5". I know it is a stretch, but we are out of options. Ben Gu's game is better closer to the basket. Not saying that he is going to block 10 shots a game, but Coach Jank needs to put Ben Gu in position to be successful. Gu is not a PG and by no means should continue to jack up threes. Gu is successful when he attacks the basket, crashes the boards, finishes alley oops, stays active around the glass. Not sure about his back to the basket game, but my guess is his back to the basket game could be good. Quite frankly Gu's back to the basket game could be better than Froling's.

As far as transfers... Seriously Sed, Frazier, Froling. Give me a break. I am good with any of those guys choosing to transfer to other schools. SMU has had a number of kids transfer to SMU over the past couple of years. Not going to name all the transfers in and out here, but I am pretty sure that it could be a wash. Transfers will continue to happen in College Basketball. Unfortunately kids and the people who represent the kids will continue to think that the kids are better than they are.

Regardless of what 5 Coach Jank plays on the floor, I will take our 5 against almost any team's 5. Go Mustangs!

Teams with height like UCF with Tacko Fall will really hurt us with the loss of our 6 11" "center". We need the Greek to put a body on the biggest opposing player to block him out and absorb minutes, and fouls.
The Greek needs to be instructed " Your job is to take charges, block out the tallest player, and allow us to rest Semi, Ben, and Jarrey. Period. Don't shoot the ball unless it is an uncontested layup. All defense and rebounding all the time".
I want the Greek to foul out at the end of every game and allow Semi, Ben, Jarrey, ect stay reasonably clean as teams crash the boards trying to get us in foul trouble. We need a guy to take fouls and minimize the "matador" effect of foul avoidance.

The Greek is going to go from zero minutes to about 15- 20 in one game.

BTW : You can see why players like Semi transfer .... they've been recruited over by future lottery pics. Or players that don't get any playing time. Or players like KF who feel they are being punished for past transgressions.

But in Harry's case, he got plenty of minutes, wasn't recruited over (none of our 2017 recruits were seen as his replacement), and his role was growing.

A real head scratcher... Unless he thinks he should be the featured guy playing like Dirk.

I know some might disagree, but I would be stunned if Leo Kon plays more than a couple of minutes other than a dire foul trouble situation. He isn't close to ready to play against high end competition. They are gonna slide Sterling & Jarrey over to 4 for 12-15 minutes a game. And extend the 3 bench guards minutes by a couple each a game.

Wouldn't be stunned if they use Leo Kon against McNese and maybe Albany to buy a couple minutes like Jank did with Wilfong (when Frazier and MK were out last year) but when tough games come around he is gonna stick with the schollie guys. The foul idea isn't bad but youll be going 4 on 5 on O.

Pony81 I think he thinks he is an aussie Dirk type player.

Harry Froling leaving SMU, disappointed in role
2:09 PM AST
Associated Press

DALLAS -- SMU freshman Harry Froling of Australia is leaving the program and expressing disappointment over his role under new coach Tim Jankovich.

Froling said Monday it was a "big sacrifice" to leave his home country to play for the Mustangs and the change has been difficult. The 6-foot-11 forward said he was "going to look at all of my options collegiately and professionally back home."

The 18-year-old Froling averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds while playing almost 15 minutes per game for the Mustangs. He signed with SMU in May when Larry Brown was still coach. Brown abruptly resigned in July, and Jankovich had been the coach in waiting as his top assistant.

Froling has two older sisters who have played for the SMU women, including current player Alicia Froling.

I guess going to the same school as his sisters meant nothing to him either.

Maybe it did. It can be tough to live in the shadow of your older sibling. Big sister is the star of the women's team.

Adios.

At least KF gave us some moments and a could show off his towel waving prowess. I think I'm sadder that the towel left than either KF or HF.
