NCAA BracketologyModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: NCAA BracketologyWe need to see what kind of run he can get on now, remember, he inherited some very tough sanctions courtesy of Lord Larry. He convinces KD to come back (mostly with a brief case full of NIL money) and then you know we will get some top transfers to come in.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: NCAA BracketologyTwo issues- yes, we had some tough sanctions. however Jank used them as excuses instead of working to overcome the restrictions. IIRC the last couple of years he was not on sanctions and his record is not good.
The second issue is that SMU does little to nothing to back their coaches, especially with legal assistance. "Major' schools like UNC and others fight back and then skate because the NCAA is afraid to fight them.
Re: NCAA BracketologyThe reason the sanctions excuse rings hollow is that at one point in the scholarship reductions, he wasn't even using the full allotment of scholarships. We were down to 11 from 13 and still not using them all.
Re: NCAA BracketologySMU back in Lunardi’s bracket as the last team in. He now projects 3 AAC teams will be in the field.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: NCAA BracketologyWhere did you see that? Lunardi’s bracket on my app hasn’t updated since Friday.
Re: NCAA Bracketology
He updates daily and sometimes hourly on his twitter feed. https://twitter.com/ESPNLunardi/status/ ... PputMpAAAA He has us against Wake Forest in the play in game with the winner playing Texas, that would be sweet! Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: NCAA BracketologyVery true,
We are 0-2 on a neutral court this year against much inferior competition. We blew double digit leads in both of those losses. We need all SMU fans and students to make the short trek over to Ft. Worth for that Friday game. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: NCAA BracketologyThis SMU team clearly took time to gel with so many transfers and frosh in the rotation. Just have to hope the committee takes that into consideration but there is no advocate for the American on the committee so that doesn't help

Meanwhile, teams like Xavier and SMU need to get to their conference tourney title games if they want to avoid Selection Sunday sweating https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 408395002/ Mustang from India
Re: NCAA BracketologySMU
A three-bid AAC is very much in the realm of possibility. SMU started the season really badly but has played great basketball the last few months. There are a few slip-ups here and there, but for the most part, the Mustangs have built a solid resume, solidifying that with home wins over Cincinnati and Tulane this past week, putting them at a respectable 22-7 on the season. The Mustangs went 3-1 against Memphis and Houston this season to highlight their resume. The analytics look good and their in solid shape to cause some damage in the AAC Tournament. They haven’t gotten a ton of chances for great wins, but they’ve clearly taken advantage of those few opportunities. The Mustangs should dance barring an utter collapse next week. https://bustingbrackets.com/2022/03/07/ ... winners/6/ Mustang from India
Re: NCAA BracketologyThe AAC needs to shift its tournament earlier so that the final is on Saturday. The Sunday final doesn't mesh well with the way the committee likes to wrap up its work. That's why SMU got underseeded in 2017; the committee just plugged both SMU and Cincinnati into 7 seeds and didn't change anything based on the outcome of the tournament final that SMU won over Cincy.
I'd like to hope that maybe this year the Sunday game could work to SMU's advantage if we make the final, because the committee could just plug SMU in as an 11 or 12 seed. But probably not, because unlike trying to re-seed two seven seeds and deal with all the knock-on effects in 2017, here the committee can just leave SMU out if we lose. Never having gotten an AAC seat on the selection committee in the decade SMU has been a conference member remains Hart's single biggest failing.
Re: NCAA BracketologyTrue.
Re: NCAA Bracketology
Lunardi’s latest tweet: “SMU wins and beats Indiana for last at large bid.”
Re: NCAA BracketologyAccording to The Athletic, SMU gets play in game at #12 v. Miami.
