I always hate the end of bball season that ends so suddenly. But I guess I am very used to it. I am disappointed but in reality it's not surprising. Overall the season is about what we expected. I didn't see us winning more than 15 or 16 games. The problem is the talent recycle every year is just more of the same. I keep hearing good things about these new guys coming in but is it really going to make a huge difference to get us to 20 wins? Then what happens in 2011-12? It's scary to think we might not go dancing until 2014 or 15 if at all.

I think the 1st half of the season was a killer for us. We didn't seem to have any sense of team play or have any idea what we were doing or set lineup. Playing Harp so many games was a bad mistake. I don't know what Doh is thinking most of the time and I am a little surprised at some of his comments in the media lately about the systems, "it takes time", etc.

If you do give him another year (which is most likely) - how does that affect recruiting for 2011? - you can't give him an extension so you have to wait until the end of next year to let him go.

I'm just glad we didn't lose 20 games again for the third straight season

Doherty is a lame duck next year. How many teams let a coach go into their final season without either firing him or extending him? We will be in limbo if we do not make a move in the offseason. Hell if we do not fire him (which we should), then we need to give him a 2 year extension, what I DO NOT WANT is for him to come back next year with no gaurantees on the horizon.

You either have to fire him or extend him, or we can kiss any recruiting goodbye.

Wow, losing on senior night by double digits and now this. That could be it. Even if they thought he was staying, you have to revisit after these last few games. Just ouch.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

I just don't see them getting rid of him unless there is so much heat that they have to. The question is, do that many boosters even care? Don't most of the big boys only care about the pigskin?

As someone who thought he was staying and said that he should stay, I can't argue with a change at this juncture.

Williams & Miller=bball. I'm sure there are more. At least one is pro Doh.

This is a valid point. Make no mistake, there are many of the big donor's that like the Doherty image as our basketball headcoach, he is notable, well spoken, an engaging character who has the skins on the wall and stories to go with them. He fits the SMU 'elitist' mode. I think a lot of the donors are fine with a losing basketball team with Doh at the helm because they can go to the W with him and look cool at the bar.

If you people are serious about a change, you better let the two men that can do something about it, know how you feel, or NOTHING will change.

That is silly - who wants to hang out with a losing coach? His history has no relevance now - he's far gone from all that.

I am not necessarily in favor of making a change, because the second half of the season (conference play) definitely trended up. However, the Tulsa, Marshall, and UCF games packaged together definitely leave a sting and bring some serious questions which had previously been answered (ie when we were 7-7 in conference). Do you ignore the first half (non-conference play) and chalk this up as a mini losing streak to end the season, which most teams go through during the course of the season or do you look at it as what you see is what you get? It's not my money, but if it was I would probably avoid a buyout. If I were AD, I would make a move if directed by the circle of champions, otherwise stay the course. I definitely can't argue with either decision.

I agree, but many people with the checkbook do not share that opinion, Doherty is the [deleted] in their books and he did just enough to validate keeping him.

Doherty wears the suit well as the face of the program, he has sucked up to several key big donors and we may have a hard time ridding ourselves of him. I would not be suprised if a two year extension is announced here shortly.

It is my understanding that there is one major donor that is protecting him...............
