gostangs wrote:Hoopmanx is fine, and i enjoy his post most of the time, but it would be great if he knew half as much as he thinks he knows. There is a lot of basketball knowledge on this board, they just don't all try to shove it down everyones throat. Also - he is an apparel guy, and they always think they are more critical to the enterprise then they really are. Also, your list of 6 items could have been made up by a 9th grader.

We are all having fun watching the Stangs rise up from the ashes to relevance. Lets just enjoy it, embrace everyone and their basketball knowledge or lack thereof, and let the people who really know what they are doing (our coaching staff from top to bottom) work their craft.

Go Mustangs!!

The list is the list, I didn't invent it. As for knowing it all, no one does. I just get paid to go to events, hob nob w coaches etc. I can tell you how every kid on this roster was acquired, and in most cases where the bodies are buried. Some of that isn't appropriate here, so I refrain other than vague reference. The point being that we play the game and well have to if we want Myles. I don't base anything ever off what comes out of the kids mouth, and I know most of the kids surrounding group.
As for the staff, they are very good at what they do, but could stand more trail discretion. Their methods aren't exactly industry secret

My mind ain't right today. I saw panties and a three letter word beginning with "W' and got excited. Just thought I would share because this thread needs a little levity.

While they are not always right (who is other than me) Hoopmanx and Stallion do bring something to the table. Most people cannot seem to handle someone disagreeing with their positions without resorting to personal attacks. Taking things personally is unnecessary. As my ninth grade daughter explained to someone on Youtube this weekend--and I only share this because someone stated that a ninth grader could have listed the six points Hoopmanx raised in a previous post which, apparently, calls into question the maturity, knowledge and argument skills of 15 year olds--state your opinion and support it with fact. If someone disagrees with your opinion, consider their points and, again, respond with facts that refute their opinion and support your own. If you cannot do that, then simply concede the point and move on.

Hoopmanx has never stated "he knows all." He has just expressed his opinions which demonstrates he knows more than the masses. I, for one, have no problem with this. I have no clue of what goes on with basketball recruiting. I readily admit this point. I do, however, have experience with recruiting in general. I would guess that less than .01% of the posters on this board can say that and Hoopmanx is one of those posters.

I have no idea of why I am defending him as we have never met and he has done a pretty good job of that all on his own, but when it comes to basketball recruiting he has already scoreboarded all of you. How many living rooms have any of you sat in with a player who is being recruited by high major programs? How many of you have coached high-major players and had detailed discussion with them regarding what programs are really offer them or what they want? How many of your have spoken with others in the know who have information regarding what is really important to a particular recruit?

My point is that for better or worse Hoopmanx does know more than most of us. Accept and deal with it guys. He may be a little snarky in how he delivers the information but most of his points are valid. Some are demonizing him for calling out SMU fans. I have always believed that being critical of SMU fans on Ponyfans was common practice. I do not post often, but has that changed? I have to admit, however, that I am an @$$hole to the core and appreciate the the no-nonsense manner in which Hoopmax chooses to communicate his opinions.

In closing, to quote a dear friend of mine "inhale the good ish, exhale the bad ish," and have a blessed weekend. Pony Up! Beat UCONN!

Hoopmanx: "I can tell you how every kid on this roster was acquired, and in most cases where the bodies are buried. Some of that isn't appropriate here, so I refrain other than vague reference."

I think Hoopmanx ought to shut the hell up. Despite what he might think under NCAA Rules as an alleged former SMU student and supporter of the program he is a representative of the university as defined by the NCAA Bylaws. He repeatedly with regard to Moreria, Frazier and many, many others through the years has insinuated that SMU is cheating, "riding dirty", providing "Perks and Benefits". And he claims to have inside knowledge of this based on his contacts. He literally has made hundreds of posts like this on different forums. He doesn't know where the [deleted]' line is. He can't have it both ways. He can't be just a former AAU guy and still claim he's independednt of SMU Compliance. Somebody needs to say this. You guys can sit back and act like its no big deal that we have a loose cannon like Hoopmanx. I don't think its funny.

That is the truth! We do not need another Sherwood to ruin all the progress we've made.

Two things: over the years our various staffs have trusted me and still do. I've maintained very constructive relationships w them. they've helped me, I've helped them. Second, if compliance has a problem, they'll let me know as well. Kyle is a good guy and reaches out on occassion.

Also, I never said we cheated, provided perks and benefits or rode dirty, just that we play the game. That's vague by intention and specifics will never ever find their way to this public forum. If anything I know more about where the line is than anyone, cause I live at these events and deal w/all walks of the industry. If anyone of importance had issue w/it, they'd tell me and I'd have no problem backing off. You aren't that guy, stallion

This comment right here proves to me (along your many other posts) that you have no idea how basketball recruiting works. Don't ask questions you don't want the answers to because you probably won't like them. You can't have it both ways with criticizing for him not saying exactly what happened and the criticizing him for even bringing it up. I for one appreciate Hoops insight and you could stand to learn a thing or two. Just know that no top recruit goes anywhere without some perks. Stop attacking each other and listen.

hoop, you know I value your input (as do many others), but why say or imply anything that isn't above board -- especially at a school synonymous with scandal? What's to gain? There's an underbelly to everything. We get it.

Serious question... Does anyone actually read all of Stand Ups letters?

Good god man. Ever heard of TLDR? I don't even know what you said because of how long your bullshat is

Hoopmanx knows more. He's already acknowledged he's just frustrated with a bunch of us morons thinking we know everything about bball now that we're good.

I agree, wade into the waters slowly so you don't look like an idiot. My two cents doesn't carry the anywhere near same weight as someone like LA_Mustang, Hoopmanx or OBF. I know an [deleted] load about football, but I'm pretty middle of the road on bball, so when I do pipe in, I don't like to sound like stupid.

CMF, you get it but many/most here did not. They think a win or two, cheering for the kid at games(which isnt exactly loved by the NCAA), matters. It doesn't. As for smu being synonymous with scandal, that was a lifetime ago and we've been on probation since. Can't live scared. I agree w you, there isn't much to gain, but there isn't anything to lose either. Its essentially vague message board gossip, big freakin deal.

All that said, If smu gets mudiay and turner in one class, the watchdogs will be out anyway. Be careful what you wish for lol. We'd be better off hanging w recruits in the 25-125 range, IMO.. Just saying...
