You're right in a sense, but the selection committee uses those RPI rankings in deciding who's in.[/quote]
yes, they use it as one of several factors they consider, but as I said generally the top 40 is about the only part relevant to at large selections. There are some wacky ratings throughout the RPI rankings that even the ncaa dismisses at times.

I think Stallion needs to have a conversation with nc pony about why we can't win any big games.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

at this point, I don't care, but Hofstra is not a top 30 team in the country and I doubt anyone really thinks they are. I bet if they came to Moody, the oddsmakers would even favor SMU as big of a disconnect as that might seem. The oddsmakers know best, not some whack computer program. Besides that, Houston and Utep are the 3 and 4 teams in CUSA, obviously not SMU. Whatever. Go Colonial Athletic Association!

I'm not a lobbyist for the CAA or anything, and believe me, I like having the #4 team in the country in our own conference. I just think we could be more competitive. I'm going to the ACC tourney this w/e here in NC to see some great bball. I know we will never be like ACC schools, but we should be able to compete in CUSA, don't you think??

i agree aside from uab and memphis, The C-USA this year is pitiful.
How would you like to be a Tulsa fan - you were once in Gonzaga type status the previous 10 years or so and now you are terrible. John Phillips f'd up that program.
Nc Pony - I assume you are new to the board. Here are some reasons we don't win the big game:
Moody Coliseum - 50 yrs old
Practice Courts - none
Recruiting compared to conf. foes - below avg
Ability to transfer Juco's - slim to none
Conference - very average
Curriculum - tough classes, nothing academically friendly
Fans - non existent
SMU admin support - none
Committed to winning - NO

nc pony,
I willl remind you that our Men's track team finished 3rd in the country as recent as 2004. Has UNC-WILM ever finished that high in anything?

Thanks Pony Fan. Yeah, hating it if i was a Tulsa fan. But think about this... at least they were good for a time. Most programs fluctuate from high to low status in basketball, even the UNC's and Kentucky. We have constntly been below avg.

Pony Fan pretty much summed it up. Plus Tubbs failed to give the Knute Rockne speech in the lockerroom before the game. And he didnt switch adeptly enough between man to man, box and one, and traditional zone defenses.

Honestly, I don't know. They have a very good baseball team as well as having made the ncaa 4 out of 7 years. They almost made the sweet 16 a few years ago but lost on a last second three by Juan Dixon of Maryland.
That's great about track and i know our golf and soccer programs are good, but c'mon...what sports do people watch?

oh, and I would get a kick out of it if anyone has the press release for "THE COMMITTMENT" from 5 years ago. If you have it, please scan it in here so I can laugh.
