Thank you, we tried and came up short. Seeing Gregg do that well with such poor resources it simply galls me as someone raised on SMU sports that the AD didn't handle the interview process with Gregg more professionally. That is where my my disgust with the process comes from...embarassment.

If Greg Marshall (Winthrop's coach and former pupil of the great John Kresse) expressed an interest in the SMU job and was interviewed during the search that resulted in Tubbs' hiring...I must have missed it.

Marshall will do a great job for someone down the road. I wouldn't be surprised to see him succeed Dave Odom at S.Carolina or Herion at College of Charleston.

SMU contacted him, he reciprocated the interest, was told he'd receive the travel plans etc the next day....and never heard back from SMU. Enter the DISD coaching caucus.

There were other great candidates interested as well. Marshall's chance will come. There was a little school in Washington DC in the early '70's that had no basketball success. The local Catholic school coaches asked the President of that little school in Washington DC to take a chance on one of their own, the Coach at St. Anthony's who had won the city title. The President figured this is a good Catholic fella, he played in the NBA, and has won the City title, I guess we'll take a chance on him despite the fact that he's black and 6'10". The school was Georgetown and the coach was John Thompson. It took Georgetown a couple of years to get to the NIT and a decade to go dancing. It turned out to be a great hire. Georgetown dominated DC recruiting for several decades. I could give other examples. Hopefully, this will all work out for everyone. Tubbs is our coach, and we want him to succeed. If he succeeds, look for us to dominate recruiting in Dallas over the next few decades, if he fails, at least we kept the bridges built for his predecessor to work with the Dallas coaches.
